Thibideau (McQuaid), Brita Teresa Gertrude - It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother, Brita Teresa Gertrude (McQuaid) Thibideau, age 77, wife to Wilfred “Sonny”; and devoted mother to children, Kris (Maria) Thibideau, Shannon (Matthew) Mayhew, Ryan (Mandy) Thibideau, Nathan Thibideau, Nadean (Scott Boudreault) Thibideau. She passed away on March 8, 2024, after a long battle with lewy body dementia. Her final moments were spent peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.
Brita was born in 1946, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. She was a daughter of Maurice and Mary Alice McQuaid. After several military postings around the country, her family settled in Miscouche, PEI. She met her husband, Sonny, during a dance at the Miscouche Legion, in 1971. They married on August 30, 1975.
In 1990, Brita’s career with the Federal Government, brought her family to Cole Harbour, where they lived for over 30 years. Those who had the privilege of being close to Brita, knew her as passionate, dedicated, with a whimsical sense of humor. She was known for her beautiful gardening and generosity. She was an avid artist, who loved drawing landscapes, coastlines, and small doodles on birthday cards. She adored her grandchildren, Mya, Tyler, Andrew, Bennett, Brinley, Duncan, and Charlotte. She gave them all of her affection and attention as they brought her immense joy and laughter. Brita will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
She is survived by siblings, Margaret DesRoche, Raphael (Marjory) McQuaid, Cheryl (Judy) McQuaid, Maureen (Robert) Belanger, and Brenda Jeffrey.
She is predeceased by her parents and siblings, Charles (Yvonne) McQuaid and Douglas (Claudette) McQuaid.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
