Rev. Gordon Clair MacLeod

MacLeod, Rev. Gordon Clair - It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Rev. Gordon Clair MacLeod on November 6, 2024 at the age of 86. We rejoice that he is with Jesus his Saviour.

Clair was born in Long River PEI to Elmer and Esther (Bernard) MacLeod. He attended school in Long River until 1953 when it became necessary to leave and work on the family farm. Growing up Clair loved sports and played hockey in the winter and softball in the summer. Clair met the love of his life, Enid, when he was 17 years old. They were married at 19 and had 67 wonderful years together. The first years of their life together were spent farming in Long River. In 1965 Clair heeded God’s call to ministry and became a student minister and the family moved to Hunter River, PEI. He attended Prince of Wales College graduating with a BA in 1969. The family moved to Duvernay, Quebec for 2 years where Clair was again a student minister and a student. He completed his studies at Presbyterian College/McGill and after 3 years graduated with a MA in Religious Studies. During his last year of studies, the family moved to Huntingdon, Quebec and Clair continued as a student minister. In May 1972 Clair was ordained as a minister in the Presbyterian Church in Canada and continued his ministry in Huntingdon/Athelstan and Elgin. In 1976 Clair accepted a call to St. James Presbyterian Church and St. Pauls Presbyterian Church in Truro, Nova Scotia. Clair had a faithful ministry in these two congregations until his retirement in 2003. Retirement years were spent travelling with Enid, family times and ministry opportunities. Clair and Enid especially enjoyed their time at the family cottage in Long River.

Clair is survived by his wife, Enid (nee Donald); sons, Brian, Kevin (Pam), Kent (Karen) and Kirk (Allyson); brother, Donald (Joni); sister-in-law, Anne Donald as well as 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 4 nieces and several others who called him Grampie. He was predeceased by his parents; infant son, Barry; daughter-in-law, Melanie; and brothers-in law, George (Lillian) Donald and Boyd Donald.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Arimathea Funeral Cooperative.
