Homer "Ross" Weatherbee

Weatherbee, Homer “Ross” –Age 78, of Truro Heights, was promoted to Glory on Sunday, August 6, 2023.

Ross was born to the late Homer and Ada (Dartt) Weatherbee, the fifth of eight children. His early years were spent in the little village of Truro Heights helping with family chores, learning carpentry from his dad, delivering groceries for his mother who ran the general store and being involved in the local Baptist church.

He attended the Institute of Technology and earned his journeyman carpenter papers. From there he worked on many job sites, both large and small in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. In 1972 Ross started his own company, H Ross Weatherbee Construction which he operated for many years. He was a dedicated member of The People’s Church and was involved in two expansions of the building in the 1970’s.

Ross was passionate about Christian education and was a supporter of Colchester Christian Academy from its inception in 1979 to recent years. He was a member of The Gideons for 20 years.

Ross had a compassionate heart for those in need. With church groups, he went on mission trips to Columbia, South America and Mexico. As a Red Cross volunteer, he spent time at Camp Aldershot helping with the displacement of refugees from Kosovo in 1999, taking his children, Amber and Anthony along with him. He was a faithful blood donor and honoured with a plaque for 100 donations. After the passing of their son, Aaron, in 1995, Ross and Linda served as sale representatives for Smet Monuments, this opened up a new avenue of helping others with compassion and understanding.

Ross was not afraid to start a new venture (with some failures along the way!). His biggest business accomplishment would be the development of Roslin Heights Subdivision in Truro Heights which he started in the mid 70’s.

Ross got great enjoyment from hunting, fishing, bowling and gardening. Ross & Linda both enjoyed “the open road” whether it was a Sunday drive or a drive to Florida to visit the boys, and to watch their college soccer games. He rarely missed being there for his children’s and grandchildren’s activities – concerts, graduations, award nights, music recitals and all things sports.

Although Ross could be bull-headed and had his quirks (never throw out anything, it might be needed!), he taught his children to be tolerant, caring and accepting of others. He was proud of his family and their accomplishments although he wasn’t always forthcoming to tell them – but he did to others. He enjoyed family gatherings which always included food, fun and laughter.

These last few years became increasingly difficult as he struggled with Alzheimers. Despite his failing memory, we were still important to him and he was always happy to see us.

Ross is survived by his faithful wife, Linda (Mantle); loving children, Andrew (Jeannie), Lower Truro; Andrea Hingley (Tim), Great Village; Amber Weatherbee-Mann, Sackville; Alexander (Kathiann) and Anthony (Tamara), both of Pensacola, Florida; twenty grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Beatrice Hingley, Truro; and brother Raymond (Mary), Truro Heights; brothers-in-law, Harry Johnson, Donald Harvey; and sisters-in-law, Lillian and Marie.

He was predeceased by daughter, Aleca Rose (1983); son, Aaron Ray (1995); grandson, Jeremy Aaron (2020); brothers, Leland, Ivan, Cecil; sisters, Eva Johnson, Zelda Harvey; and brother-in-law, Gary Hingley.

A visitation will be held Monday, August 14 from 1 – 1:45 with a funeral to follow at 2 p.m., both in The People’s Church, 15 Elm Street, Truro with Pastor Anthony Weatherbee officiating. Burial will be in Truro Heights Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ross’s memory may be made to Colchester Christian Academy, The Gideons or a charity of choice.

We thank the staff of Cedarstone Enhanced Care Garden Road for their care and concern for Ross.
