Roberts, Joan Constance – Age 89, of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2023 surrounded by her loving family in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Violet (Miller) Cunningham.
Whether you called her Joan, Joanie Bear, Mom, Gram or GG, if you were a part of her family or extended family and friends you knew you were loved with all of her heart and soul! Often described as feisty, she would not hesitate to snap anyone back in line when needed! Our fondest memories are of days spent lounging around her backyard pool, savoring the smell of her famous homemade rolls baking in the oven.
Joan will be missed by her children, Doug (Phyllis) Roberts and family, Dawn (Gerald) McLean, Paula Roberts (Bob Hunt) and family; grandchildren, Rochelle Roberts, Blake McLean, Shantelle (Jordan) Brenner, Kara (Bryan) MacDonald, Nicole (Kristy Beck) McLean; great-grandchildren, Bella Wright, Cody Wright, Ewan MacDonald, Riley Brenner, and Graeme MacDonald.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years, Douglas Roberts and her son, Russell Roberts.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
In keeping with Joan’s wishes, her immediate family will celebrate her life privately.
Memorial donations may be made to Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
Many thanks to the doctors, nurses, staff, caregivers and volunteers at Aberdeen Hospital Emergency Department and 4th floor Medical Unit for the wonderful care given Joan and her family. A special thank you to Dr. Rivera and his staff for their exceptional care and compassion. Thank you to the VON for their support allowing Joan to stay in her little apartment that she loved.
