Loyde Burton Watson

Watson, Loyde Burton – Following a lengthy battle with cancer, it is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Loyde on December 26, 2023 in his 79th year.

Loyde was raised in the small and close-knit community of West St. Andrews, where he later settled with former spouse, Doris (Woodworth), raising two loving daughters, Lisa (Paul Pickup) and Donna Robertson (James).

He took great pride in his grandchildren, Mitchell Currie (Nicole), Andrew Currie, Jori Moore and Darwin Moore. He was a great-grandfather to Leo Currie and Lylah Moore.

Loyde is survived by and will be deeply missed by his daughters; their spouses; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; his siblings, Marion Rutherford, Eva Hare, Vick (Marjorie), Percy, Bryan (Marie); former sister-in-law, Cathy and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his loving parents, Dorothy and Burton; siblings, Adeline, Harold, Dwight, Lorne, Gerry, Ruby, Sylvia and Dalton (Eileen); and brothers-in-law, Emerson and Cecil.

Loyde wasn’t afraid of hard work, and he took great pride in every project he undertook as a master carpenter throughout his lifetime. They say you must be cut-throat to achieve huge financial success in business; Loyde was anything but. He was a big softie at heart, achieving so much more than what money could buy. He was skilled, kind, and a man of his word, with great character and integrity, gaining well deserved respect and admiration from both his clients and employees.

In his earlier years, Loyde enjoyed gardening, a good round of golf, and as a devout dog lover, always had a canine friend by his side.

Loyde always brought humor and enjoyed a good laugh, but, much like the rest of the family, his true passion was music. He was an avid fiddler and guitar player, and enjoyed singing a few of his favorites now and again. There is no doubt that a lot of polkas, laughter and smiles are happening in heaven right now.

The family extends immense appreciation to the staff at Cedarstone for the expert and compassionate care provided to Loyde in his final days.

At Loyde’s request, cremation has taken place. If desired, donations may be made in his memory to Cedarstone Enhanced Care or your local SPCA.
