Roberta Maxine Bellefontaine

Bellefontaine, Roberta Maxine – Age 89, of Brookvale, passed away surrounded by family on July 23, 2022 in Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital.

Roberta was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Lexie Higgins; sisters, Eunice (Ivan) Jennings, Joan (Keith) Taylor; and brother, Ralph (Doreen) Dickie.

She is survived by Ronald, her husband of 71 years; children, Martha (Calvin) Higgins, Debbie (Darryl) Sutherland, Ronda (Glenn Campbell), Dennis (Cosette Tetrault), and Gwynneth; grandchildren, Mark, Jeff, Jill, Casey, Emma, Lindsey, Derek and Sara and great-grandchildren Rachel, Jeremy, Isla, Isabella, Rocco, Gia and Dillon.

After starting her married life with Ronnie in Halifax, they moved back to Higginsville where they farmed together for 35 years. Roberta was active as a 4-H leader, and member of Higginsville/Lindsay Lake Ladies Aid, Brookvale Ladies Aid and the Bicentennial Choir. After years on the farm, she continued to cook three meals a day for all who gathered at her table, until her last year. It didn’t matter how many people, or what time of day they visited, there was always food enough for everyone, plus a dessert. She loved cooking shows and reading recipes and was always sharing new tips she would learn from both. As a result of her love of baking, she was a food judge at the Halifax County Exhibition and various other exhibitions across the province. She was famous among family, friends and neighbours for her champion quality homemade bread and rolls. Roberta was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer in 2019 at the age of 86. Her family was blessed to have her in their lives for another three and a half years, thanks to her determination and attitude. Her dry humour will be missed by all, including her many beloved nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank Dr. AJ (Alwin Jeyakumar) and Nurse Kim at the Dickson Center, VON Middle Musquodoboit, Homecare staff, Dr. K. Barnes, Dr. K. Day, and nursing staff at Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital for their kindness and professionalism.

Donations in memory of Roberta may be made to Higginsville Cemetery Society.

A graveside service will be held August 5, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. in Higginsville Cemetery with Rev. Allan Lynk officiating.
