Joan Audrey Sampson

Sampson, Joan Audrey – Age 89, passed away suddenly July 27, 2022 in Dartmouth General Hospital.

Born in Head of Jeddore, she was the youngest of eleven daughters of the late Ervin and Bertha (Day) Westhaver.

She was a faithful and active member of St. James Anglican Church for over sixty years. Joan first worked as a dental assistant for the late Dr. Reg Crosby in Dartmouth and later for the Nova Scotia Light & Power in the Purchasing Department in Halifax. She was a kind and gentle person always putting others before herself. She enjoyed working in her garden, knitting and sewing, especially making quilts. She was a lover of animals, especially cats, taking in the strays that seemed to find their way to her doorstep but never left.

Joan is survived by her husband of almost 68 years, Harry; daughters, Barbara Goldsmith, Gail (Barry) Shaw; grandsons, Justin (Vicki) Goldsmith, Matthew Shaw (Stephanie Kenny); granddaughter, Leanne Shaw (Stephen Smith).

She was predeceased by sisters, Dorothy Boutilier, Margaret Bowser, Velda Shears, Mary Robson, Aletha Lindsay, Marion Parsons, Eleanor Westhaver, Edith Sutherland, Madalyn and Jean in infancy; sister-in-law, Marie Styles.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 1 at 11 a.m. in St. James Anglican Church, Dolby Hill with a burial to follow in St. James Anglican Cemetery, Head of Jeddore.

Memorial donations may be made to St. James Anglican Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
