McCurdy, Charles Ervin – Age 97, Halifax, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2020. Born on June 27, 1922, in Middle Musquodoboit, he was a son of the late Ervin and Alice (Ladd) McCurdy.

Charles graduated from Normal College and taught for a year in Bass River. He then enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in the Second World War, primarily in England and France. After the war, he attended Mount Allison, McGill, and Dalhousie Universities, graduating with a Commerce degree in 1949. He joined Simpsons department store in Halifax, where he worked until he retired in 1979. He also worked for the Province of Nova Scotia and then Scotia Fuels until his final retirement in 1988.

Dad was a man of many interests, talents and passions. He was a devoted Christian, a member of St. Matthew's United Church, a life elder at Bethany United Church, and a member of the Rotary Club and other community organizations. He enjoyed woodworking, repairing anything, gardening, camping, travelling, and photography. Music was a huge passion. He loved singing with the choral society, barbershop chorus, and church choirs. He sang on family road trips, around the piano at home, and to us, as children, at bedtime fielding our many requests. Most of all, Dad loved his family. He adored Mom and together they welcomed everyone into their home. He was an amazing example to all of us with his service, integrity, compassion, sense of humour, fairness, and faithfulness.

Charles is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jessie Isabel (MacKichan); children, Leslie (Katharina), Glenn (Linda), Katherine (David), David (Andrea), Christeen (Jim); grandchildren, Sarah (Anthony), Paul, Micah (Anna), Kelsey, Katlyn, Stephanie, James (Celine), Andrew (Natalie), Christeen, Carolyn (Colin), Michael, and Jason; great-grandchildren, Delilah, Edmund, and Nicolas; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Helen, Gordon, Ann, and Eileen.

The funeral will be held in Bethany United Church, on Wednesday, February 26th at 11 a.m. There will be visitation with the family in Bethany United Church chapel on Tuesday, February 25th from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
