DeBaie, Barry Anthony – Little Harbour. It is with great sadness that the family of Barry DeBaie announces his passing on February 21, 2020 at the age of 68 years, following a long battle with cancer. Born in DeBaie’s Cove, he was a son of the late Maurice and Frances (Stevens) DeBaie.
Barry had many occupations in his life including well drilling, working for the Canadian Coast Guard, driver for New Century Courier, owner and operator of B&W Courier, but for the greater part of his life he worked as a fisherman, mainly ground fish and lobster.
He was a respected member of his community, known for always being there to lend a helping hand. He had many interests in life, including road trips to the U.S. (usually with daughter, Melissa) to get boats in need of repair, towing them home and bringing them back to life for others to enjoy. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Wanda (Gray); loving children, Mark, Melissa DeBaie Jodrey; grandchildren, Kristopher and Michael DeBaie; his many caring sisters, Paulette (Jamie) Reid, Beverley (Roger) Hilchie, Joan (Doug) Siteman, and Joanne DeBaie; as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Milton “Mike”.
Cremation has taken place. At his request, there will be no visitation or funeral service at this time, but a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
The family would like to thank the nurses from Northwood Continuing Care, staff and doctors of Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, QEII Health Sciences Centre and Dartmouth General Hospital. A special thanks to Debbie Keating and Marylou Turple for being there when the homecare nurses couldn’t make it.
Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
