Bowers, Winnifred Hagar Marie – Age 85 of Stewiacke, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2019 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Kemptville, Yarmouth Co., she was a daughter of the late Conrad and Marie (Hagar) Hamilton.
Surviving are her loving husband of 61 years, Eric; her children, Mitchell Andrew (Darlene), Paradise; Anne Marie (Stephen) MacKeil, Elmsdale; Marlene Rose (Brian) White, Greenfield; Timothy James (Irene), Lower Truro; Eric “Charles” (Leah), Brookfield; daughter-in-law, Anne Keeler, Windsor; 13 grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Blake Fiddler, Quispamsis; Glen Gavel, Yarmouth Co.; sister-in-law, Edith Hamilton, Carleton. She was predeceased by son, Peter Francis; siblings, Shirley Fiddler, Katherine Gavel, Hilda Deal, Roy Charles Hamilton.
Winnie was a long-time nurse, graduating from the Children’s Hospital Class of 1957. She shared her passion for nursing by caring continuously for her community throughout her life. Winnie was a devoted wife and mother, with her life revolving around her home and family. Her grandchildren were her heart; each one prayed for daily. Winnie enjoyed family gatherings which always included music and brought a smile to her face. In her company, you could expect the best hugs and the words, “Nannie loves you”. Winnie attended St. Bridget’s Parish where she was a member of the choir and CWL for many years. Winnie and Eric spent their lives together in love. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank Dr. Helika Adams for her many years of care and concern for Winnie. We would also like to thank the palliative care doctors and nursing staff of Colchester East Hants Health Centre.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m on Friday, January 3, 2020 in St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, Shubenacadie, Father Dariusz Miskowicz officiating. A reception will follow downstairs in the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
