Ryan, Robert L. – Of Lower Sackville, 1935 – 2017. Loving and beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away at home on August 14, with his wife and family by his side. Bob was born in Halifax, to Eli “Al” Ryan and Annetta “Nettie” Webber.
Bob leaves behind his loving wife of 36 years, Joan (Sangster) Ryan; sons, Robert (Rhea), John (Karen, deceased), Michael (Kathy); stepdaughter, Connie Davis; stepsons, Darrell Giffin (Brenda), Derrick Giffin (Marlyn), Darren Giffin (Cynthia). Bob was a proud grandfather of Danielle, Sarah, Lyndsay, Jessie, Jake, Cpl. Paul Davis (deceased), Noah, Tyler, Katie, Kyle, Matthew, Kyle, Emily, Michael, Hailey, Rick and Tanya; and was a great-grandfather to 10. Bob also leaves brother-in-law, Oren Sangster (Dianne); and sisters-in-law, Mona MacAdam (George), Audrey Peverill (Wilf); family friend, Michelle Gerrior; several cousins, nieces and nephews; as well as best friends, Ron “Bud” and Marie Webber.
Bob was employed at Eaton’s and then joined the Halifax Fire Department, retiring after 32 years. He owned Twin-City Plumbing & Heating, working with Vince Darrah. After building their home, with the help of his friend, Bob Keating, Bob and Joan moved to Upper Lakeville Road in Lake Charlotte for 23 happy years. Bob was a member of Musquodoboit Harbour Lions Club, where he enjoyed volunteering. As a member of Jeddore Baptist Church, he enjoyed helping out whenever needed. Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing at Mike Boutilier’s camp with his sons, his friend, Merlin Crawford, and many other friends. He enjoyed music every Thursday night with his singing buddies, playing crib, and wood-working in his shop. He built an antique shop for Joan, “Ernie’s Loft”, where they both enjoyed making many new friends. Together they sailed to Bermuda, travelled to the United States several times, and went on a family Disney cruise. Bob will be missed more than words can say.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit. Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in Jeddore United Baptist Church, 8 West Jeddore Rd., with a reception to follow. Memorial donations may be made to Musquodoboit Harbour Lions Club, Jeddore United Baptist Church, or a charity of your choice.
