Castle, Joan Irene – Age 86, of Gays River, passed away on November 1, 2016 in the Palliative Care Unit of Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, with her family by her side.
Born in Northborough, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Horatio and Pearl (Conroy) McMichael.
Joan was a hard worker all of her life, working on the family farm with her husband, Ray, raising a family of her own and caring for foster children. She worked long and tirelessly in the church, and was a member of the choir and session. She loved to do quilting, sewing, knitting and crocheting. She often did her quilting while listening to the Blue Jays games, and one highlight of her life was seeing a live game.
Surviving are her sons, Bruce, Patrick, Keith (Jennifer); daughters, Jane (Stephen), Eva (Robert); daughters-in-law, Claire and Connie; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sisters, Rae Jodrey and Elizabeth McMichael; sisters-in-law, Helen and Shirley. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond; sons, David and Earle; brother, James; grandson, Jamie.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Thursday from 7-9 p.m., and funeral service will be Friday at 10:30 a.m., both in Gays River United Church, Lori Crocker DM officiating. No flowers by request. Memorial donations may be made to Gays River United Church or a charity of choice.
