Geddes, Irene – Age 82, Westphal, passed away peacefully October 6, 2015 in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Glenmore, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Gladys (Hamilton) Rogers. Irene’s door was always open. The cookie jar was always full and the teapot was always ready. She loved to dance and enjoyed walks with her friends.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and will be lovingly missed by husband of 65 years, Donald; children, Judy French (Charles), Wilmot; Bill (Trudy), Eastern Passage; Karen Geddes (Dan Hillier), Dartmouth; Kendall (Vicki), Fall River; grandchildren, Trevor Croteau (Sara), Jason Croteau, Erin Geddes; great-grandchildren, Paige, Mitchell, Tyler and Benjamin; brothers, Carl (Mona), Doug, Frank (Willa), Jim (Freda); sister, Jessie (Eldon) Geddes; sisters-in-law, Muriel Rogers, Betty Rogers. She was predeceased by brothers, Herb, Earl, Burnard, Austin (Gloria), Aubrey (Beatrice), Donnie in infancy; sisters, Ida (Charles), Ethel (Lester), Helen (Earl); sister-in-law, Martha; son-in-law, Mike Croteau.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. on Friday, and funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, both in Port Wallis United Church, 263 Waverley Rd, Dartmouth, Rev. Ivan Gregan officiating. Reception will follow in the church hall. Family burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Stewiacke East. Family flowers only. MacDonald, Erma Christina

MacDonald, Erma Christina – Age 80, Timberlea, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2015 in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, Halifax. Born in Lindsay Lake, she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Leona (Miller) Stewart. Erma led a very versatile life, including childcare, lumber mill cook, housekeeper, store clerk, legal secretary and was also business manager and bookkeeper of Donnie’s many businesses. Many people in the community may remember her as the “Bottle Lady” as she started and ran the bottle exchange, as well as a plant, shrub and topsoil business next to their home in Timberlea. Erma was a member of Trinity United Church where she had been a session member, former choir member and U.C.W. member.

In 1975, Erma was a founding member of Stewart Hill Acreage where the family camp together every year in Upper Musquodoboit. Every five years there is a four-day family reunion where hundreds of family members come together. She was happy to be part of a legacy that the Stewart family will continue to pass on for generations.

Erma was a gentle soul and a wonderful, caring, patient wife, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. She had a dry sense of humour and could be very funny if you were quick enough to catch it. She also made the best apple pie around. Erma enjoyed planting and tending her vegetable garden, walking and hiking. She loved the outdoors, including the wind and the rain, birds and flowers.

Erma will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Surviving are her loving and dedicated husband, Donnie; sons, Ross (Lisa), Don (Bronwen); granddaughters, Rebecca and Simone, who were the lights of her life. She also leaves behind brothers and sisters, Norma McDow, Loren, Currie (Debbie), Mona Rogers (Carl), Bruce (Cheryl), Calvin (Ferne), Boyde (Jackie), Eric (Ann), Karen Swaine (Graham); sister-in-law, Susan Stewart; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Ivan and Bryan; brother-in-law, Kenny McDow; sister-in-law, Lynda Stewart.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., and funeral service will be Friday at 2 p.m., all in Trinity United Church, 67 Trinity Way, Timberlea, Rev. Helene Burns officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Parkinson Society Maritime Region.

McVicar, Rubena “Ruby” Mary Joan – April 17, 1935 – September 11, 2014. The family of Rubena Mary Joan McVicar would like to welcome you to a Celebration of Life for our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.

This will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2015, at 1 p.m., in Avoca United Church, followed by the burial of her ashes in Avoca Cemetery. There will be an open house reception at the Avoca Community Centre from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Our family welcomes all those who knew our mom and are able to come.

Day, Donald Roderick Sutherland

Day, Donald Roderick Sutherland – Age 80, of Chaswood, passed away October 2, 2015, in Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital, Middle Musquodoboit. Born in Chaswood, he was a son of the late Sidney and Helen (Malay) Day. Don had been employed with Municipal Construction for many years as a machine operator and mechanic. He loved being around farm animals and proudly showed his horses at the local exhibition. He was an avid hunter. His family knew of his sweet tooth and that there would always be candy around somewhere.

He loved his family and grandchildren, and will be sadly missed by his wife, Connie; son, Donald (Orma); daughters, Wendy (Bayfield Hines), Margot (Tim Benvie); grandchildren, Stephen, Donald, Michael, Brittany, Willie, Jessica; brothers, Stuart, Sidney (Elaine), Leonard (Denny); sisters, Helen (Harvey) Lively, Ivy Buckley, Lorraine Day; sister-in-law, Rosemarie Day; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Lawrence; sister-in-law, Florence; brother-in-law, Bill Buckley.

Taylor, James Edward

Taylor, James Edward – Age 79, Dartmouth, and formerly of Meaghers Grant, passed away October 2, 2015, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Simcoe, Ont., he was a son of the late Sydney and Edna (Forse) Taylor. Jim was an aviation mechanic with the Navy for many years. He was a long-standing member of the Grand Lodge of A.F.A.M. of Nova Scotia and the Grand High Priest of the Royal Arch Masons of Nova Scotia.

Surviving are his wife, the former Geraldine Dooks MacFarlane; children, Scott (Anne Louise), Robin (Kim), Janice (Mike); grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah, Isaac, Seth, Lindsey; great-granddaughter, Sadie; stepchildren, Kevin (Helen), Stephen (Kathy), Marilyn (Claude); six step grandchildren; one step great-grandson; one step great-granddaughter; sister, Sheila; brothers, John (Lynda), Don (Nancy). He was predeceased by brother-in-law, Roy Gibbons; sister-in-law, Sandy Taylor.

Cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time, but will be published in Monday’s paper.

Graham, Garth Ellis

Graham, Garth Ellis – Age 47, Rawdon, and formerly of Upper Stewiacke, passed away on September 22, 2015 at his home. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Arthur and Eva (Ellis) Graham. Garth enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, and everyone knew he took great pride in his work as an auto body man.

Surviving are sisters, Bonnie Leigh Graham and Karen Gero; niece, Jennifer; nephew, Jason; great-nephew, Jahmal; numerous friends.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit. Garth was just a little boy who never stopped playing with trucks. In his honour, a celebration of his life will be held at the Rawdon Pit Fun Day at a date to be announced.

Boudreau, Jane Elizabeth

Boudreau, Jane Elizabeth – Age 72, South Maitland, passed away September 21, 2015, in Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital, Middle Musquodoboit. Born in Latties Brook, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Isabel (Clooney) Tipping. Jane was a proud, devout follower of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She had a strong, tenacious attitude toward life, and was loved by all who knew her.

She will always be missed by her children, Lynn, Dawn, Michelle, Mark, Alan; grandchildren, Baby Mark, Chantal, Cassandra; great-grandson, Dysien; brothers, Charles, Kenny, Michael; many nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, at 2 p.m. in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 20971 Highway 2, Shubenacadie East. Bayers, Wendell Kirk – Age 80, East Petpeswick, passed away September 18, 2015, in Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, Musquodoboit Harbour. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Harry and Hildred (Anderson) Bayers. Wendell had been a long-time lobster fisherman and his last working years were spent with Cole Harbour Glass. He was a faithful member of First United Church.

Surviving are his wife, Alida; son, Jeffrey; daughter, Wendy (Larry) Oliver; grandson, Jacob; stepchildren, Gary (Edith) Trenholm, Charles (Eleanor) Trenholm, Franklin Trenholm, Grace Vokey; ten step grandchildren; several great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by step granddaughter, Lona.

Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be Thursday, at 2 p.m., in First United Church, Musquodoboit Harbour, Rev. Joan Griffin officiating. The family will meet friends for a reception downstairs in the church following the service. Burial will be in Bayers Settlement Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.

Elliott, Vicky Susanne

Elliott, Vicky Susanne – Of Lower Sackville and Wentworth, passed away September 17, 2015, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Gordon and Eleanor (Stevenson) Spence. Vicky was a passionate square dancer and caller at dances. She was a proud member of the Bluenose RV Squares where she made many friends.

Surviving are grandsons, Matthew (Ashley), Mark (Colleen); great-grandson, Henry; daughter-in-law, Susan; sister, Heather; lifelong friend, Marilyn; partner, Colin; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband, Harold; son, Lary; brother, Robert.

Cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will be held in Sandy Hill Cemetery, Belnan.

Dickie, Claire “Hazelle”

Dickie, Claire “Hazelle” – Age 78, Eastville, passed away September 13, 2015, in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Born in Eastville, she was a daughter of the late Murray and Lela (Johnson) Dickie. Hazelle had been employed for a number of years with the Halifax Police Department, retiring to return home to care for her mother. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and gardening. Over the years, she had many dogs, and will be sadly missed by Gracie, her current companion.

Surviving are sister, Geannie (Bill) Kaulback; brothers, Oliver (Sharon), MacKean (Sheila); sister-in-law, Arlene; nieces and nephews, Donald, Sandra, Anne, Peter, Christie, Jennifer, Gordon, Sara, Kayla and Colleen. She was predeceased by brother, Lorne.

Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held on Friday, at 11 a.m., in Springside United Church, Upper Stewiacke, Rev. Marilyn MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Eastville Cemetery. Taylor, Cornelia “Connie”

Taylor, Cornelia “Connie” – It is with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great-grandmother, Connie Taylor, in her home in Chaswood, on Sunday, September 13, 2015. Born in Dordrecht, Holland, Connie came as a young war bride through Pier 21 to Nova Scotia. Connie was an exceptional businesswoman and was instrumental in the early development of Taylor Lumber Co., in which she took great pride. At the same time, Connie raised five children, and was a wonderful mother, making it one of her main goals to have her children come to know the Lord. Her devout faith sustained her throughout her life. Her family and friends admired her independence and her thrill of travel. Rob and Caroline, who were close to their mother, stayed by her side during her final days. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

Connie is survived by son, Robert (Eve); daughter, Caroline (Bruce) Clarke; daughters-in-law, Linda and Janette; son-in-law, Robert Kendall; sister, Caroline Heitmeyer, Australia; 18 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter. She was sadly predeceased by her daughter, Ariette, and her sons, Roy and Brent.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Wittenburg Baptist Church, 777 Wittenburg Rd., Rev. Robert MacCormack and Rev. Aubrey Deslatte officiating. Burial to follow in Pioneer Cemetery, Middle Musquodoboit. Please join the family for a reception in Connie’s home following the burial. Sanford, Donald “Adam” – Age 81, of Belmont, and formerly of Mississauga, Ont., passed away September 6, 2015, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness. He will be sadly missed by wife, Pamela; daughter, Susan; son, Doug; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Lynda and her family; sister-in-law, Penny; extended family and friends. He was predeceased by brother, Roger.

Conway (Dunsworth), Marion

Conway (Dunsworth), Marion – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our mother, Marion Conway (Dunsworth) on August 30, 2015, at the age of 72. Born and raised in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Louise (Chaisson) Dunsworth. Marion and her husband moved their family to Enfield in 1970, where she became an active member of the community. Marion was a lifetime member of the Enfield Ladies Auxiliary and was an employee of the Enfield Legion for over 20 years. Marion had a quick wit and always had a ready smile for everyone she came in contact with. She took much joy in spending time with family and friends and no person ever left her home hungry.

She was predeceased by her loving husband and soul mate, Fred Conway; her parents, Fred and Louise Dunsworth; and her only brother, Stuart Dunsworth. She is survived by her children, Stuart Conway, Stephanie (Clay) Palmer, Shannon Conway (Jesus Aguilar) and Shane Conway (Faye Flores); loving grandchildren, Justin Conway, Candace Parker and Carson Palmer.

A service in her memory will be held in the Enfield Legion, Branch 133, Enfield on September 12 from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Wright, Eileen Ada – Age 79, Halifax. It is with great sadness that Eileen’s family announce her passing in the QEII Health Sciences Centre on September 1, 2015, with her son by her side. Born in Upper Musquodoboit, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Annie (Redden) Reynolds. Surviving are son, Terry and grandson, Justin, both of Halifax; sisters, Marion Prest, Mooseland; Catherine “Kaye” (Clarence) Logan, Mississauga, Ont.; Donna (Jack) Purcell, Upper Musquodoboit; sister-in-law, Ramona Reynolds, Upper Musquodoboit; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Gail; brothers, William and Harry; brother-in-law, Donald Prest.

Hamilton, Margaret Grace

Hamilton, Margaret Grace – Age 67, Middle Musquodoboit, passed away on September 1, 2015, in Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital, Middle Musquodoboit. Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late Cyril and Vivian (Foley) Brown. Margaret enjoyed the many colors in her prized flower gardens and watching the birds. She was known for taking in stray animals and caring for them. Her kindness was also extended to people, for she was well-liked in the community. Margaret faced the last few weeks with courage and humour right to the end.

Surviving are brother, William (Ruth); nephews, David (Tara), Steven; niece, Kathleen (Sterling) Ryan; grand nephews, Taylor Brown, Dylan and Cole Ryan; long-time good friend, Max Moseley.

Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Margaret’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Memorial donations may be made to a local SPCA.

Fancy, Keith Alexander “Chick”

Fancy, Keith Alexander “Chick” – Age 85, Queensland, passed away peacefully August 27, 2015. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Charles and Edith (Hawkins) Fancy. Keith graduated with his Bachelor of Commerce from Dalhousie University where he played football and belonged to Sigma Chi Fraternity. He worked for many years with North American Life Insurance and Sigma Insurance. Always the entrepreneur, he started K.A. Fancy Insurance, owned and operated Dear Old Dad’s Restaurant on the Bedford Highway and Frenchy’s stores in Rockingham and Queensland. Keith loved to travel, and after his retirement, he and Dorothy spent many winters in Ruskin, Florida, where he was able to fish for snook and take her to yard sales. He also loved to do woodworking, make fruit wine and putter around outside. Visitors to his home were always proudly shown his latest project.

Surviving are daughters, Linda (Wayne) Murray, Hammonds Plains; Paula (Raymond) Brigley, son, Mark, both of Queensland; grandsons, Jarod, Adam, Luke, Isaac, Jake; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Dorothy Erskine; sister, Eleanor MacKinnon.

Cremation has taken place. The family will welcome visitors for an open house on Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at 125 Beaver Lake Drive, Hammonds Plains. Funeral service will be Monday at 2 p.m. in St. James United Church, Upper Musquodoboit, Rev. Michael Henderson officiating. Burial to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.

McMullin, Stanley Chester

McMullin, Stanley Chester – Age 84, Lake Egmont, passed away August 22, 2015, in Braeside Home For Special Care, Middle Musquodoboit. Born in Chaswood, he was son of the late Maurice and Nina (Bell) McMullin. Stanley had been an employee of National Gypsum for 42 years, operating many machines. While there, he uncovered the skeleton of a mastodon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and stockcar racing, but for the most part, his favourite place was home with his family.

Surviving are his wife, the former Eva Sanford; daughters, Carolyn (Mervyn) Higgins, Mildred (Keith) Cunningham; daughter-in-law, Judy; grandchildren, Nancy, Joey, Danny, Daryl, Kyle, Alicia, Joshua, Chelsea; great-granddaughters, Hanna and Aubree; sister, Grace McMichael; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sons, Albert and Melvin; sisters, Gladys, Jennie and Eileen.

Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, at 2 p.m., in Nuttall Hill Cemetery, 117 Lake Egmont Rd., with Rev. Dr. Linda Yates officiating. Family flowers only. Mitchell, Cecil Lloyd

Mitchell, Cecil Lloyd – The death occurred peacefully surrounded by his loving family in Summerset Manor, Summerside, P.E.I. on Monday, August 10, 2015, of Cecil Lloyd Mitchell of Summerside and formerly of Middle Musquodoboit, aged 88 years. Cecil was born in Halifax, to the late Edwin and Jessie (Higgins) Mitchell. Beloved husband of Marlene (Blois) Mitchell and loving father of Angela (David) Darby, Wendy Coad, Tim Mitchell; stepfather of Mark (Joanne) Chatham, Wendy (Robert) Peters, Chris Chatham, Linda (Kent) Kidwell, Stanley (Ethel) Makin and Bruce Makin. Also lovingly remembered by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Survived by his sisters, Grace, Emma, Bertha and Velma. Besides his parents, Cecil was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Alice, Margaret, Florence, Ervin, Eva, Jean and Everett.

Resting in East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside until Thursday, August 13. Visitation will be in Truro, Thursday from 1:30-2:30 p.m., followed by funeral service at 3 p.m., all in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 148 Evergreen Dr. Interment to take place in Hillside Cemetery, Middle Musquodoboit. Jackson, June B. – Age 66, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully, in V.G. Site, QEII, Halifax, with family by her side, on August 9, 2015. Born in Dartmouth, on November 8, 1948, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Elsie Ritchie, and grew up with 15 siblings on the family farm in Middle Musquodoboit. June’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchild. June loved to play cards with her friends and enjoyed her bowling league. She was an avid cook and baker, sometimes using tips from her favourite cooking show to spice up her own recipes. June was a kid at heart, always the life of the party, and her infectious laugh could be heard filling the room at any gathering she attended. June will be remembered for her kind heart and generous nature, always willing to lend a helping hand where it was needed, and was always gracious and loving.

She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Ricky; son, Rick (Christina); daughter, Erica; grandchildren, Haily, Autumn, Zachary, Zoe; great-granddaughter, Britton; siblings, Mildred DeMont (Calvin), Hilda Cole (Bob), Bertha Graham (Harry), David Ritchie (Elaine); sisters-in-law, Bula, Gloria, Marg, Nancy, Thelma; brother-in-law, Wayne; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Kenny, Raymond, Roy, Rod, Murray (Mildred), Gerald, Ronnie (Audrey), Eric (Ann); sisters, Betty Redleader (Floyd), Doris Ralph (Clayton), and Mary Purdy.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, at 2 p.m., in Woodlawn United Church, 54 Woodlawn Rd., Dartmouth, www.woodlawnunited.ca with Rev. Iain Macdonald officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
