Edna Annita Matheson

Matheson, Edna Annita - It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Edna Matheson, age 94 in QEII Hospital, Halifax, on July 25, 2024.

Born in Earltown, she was the eldest daughter of the late William J. and Gladys S. MacDonald.

She is survived by her daughter, Anita (Alfred) Muise, Stillwater Lake; sons, William J. "Bill", Earltown and James E. "Jim", Red Deer, Alberta; grandchildren, Allison Muise (Daniel Stauning), Redlands, California; Angela Muise (David Murray), Halifax; and Andrew, Vancouver; great-granddaughter, Abigail; sister, Shirley, North River, Cape Breton; niece, Kathryn Graham, British Columbia. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Willard; sisters, Donna MacDonald and Ruth Graham; and granddaughter, Andrea Muise.

During her lifetime, Edna travelled various career paths - as a teacher, a bank officer, in retail, and as a homemaker. She was very involved in all aspects of the community life of Earltown, where she lived for many years. After the death of her husband, she moved to Stillwater Lake, NS to be with family. Spending time with her grandchildren gave her great happiness and she thoroughly enjoyed being a part of their lives. She was "Gram", not only for them but for all their friends as well.

Genealogy and family history were a special interest and of great importance to her. She assisted her niece, Kathryn, in the compilation of the family tree and history of the MacDonald, Sutherland, and Matheson branches of the family from the time they left Scotland in the early 1800s to present day generations.

Her last three years were spent at The Berkeley, Bedford where she made many new friends and enjoyed participating in the activities and the social life. She will be sadly missed both by family and friends, for she was loved by all who knew her. Her memory will live on through the many lives she touched.

Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative.

Graveside service will be held in Earltown Church Cemetery on August 2, at 1 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
