Shannon, William “Bill” G. – It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, grandfather, brother and uncle, William G. Shannon Sr., age 88. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 20, 2024 in Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro.
Bill was a son of the late Charles and Marjorie Shannon.
He was predeceased by his wife, Norma (McCoul); sister, Gloria (Mike) Brenner; brother, Charlie (Dianne) Shannon; and sister, Marjorie in infancy.
Surviving are his sister, Colleen (Bill) Denholm; brother, Grant (Bev) Shannon; daughter, Marjorie (Gordon) Graham; sons, Bill (Angela) Shannon and John (Avis) Harvey; grandchildren, Vicky, Rodger, Sarah, Kyle, Michaela, Holly; and many wonderful great-grandchildren.
He started off his working career by lying about his age to get in the Navy, which he loved and served his country well. After getting out, he transferred to the Air Force where he stayed for 20 years before retiring.
He and Norma bought a family farm in Upper Stewiacke, built a home and raised their family. He went to work for Michelin Tire and then later bought and ran the Petro Canada in Upper Stewiacke for eight years.
He loved woodworking and was very skilled in whatever he put his mind to. He loved reading, making wine and having his “two” glasses of wine daily. He enjoyed a good meal and spending time with his family. He had a special attachment to animals, especially Johnny’s boxers and his two tabby cats, PJ and Scamp.
He loved getting into mischief and took great pride in being an escape artist in Cedarstone.
A special thanks to Cedarstone and staff for their love and caring they gave our Dad, especially Ellen and Sherry “Blondie”.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Eastville Cemetery, c/o 7651 Highway 289, Eastville, NS B0N 2P0 would be appreciated.
