Selway, Arnold - The loving family and friends of Arnold Selway are heartbroken in announcing his passing. He was proudly known as the guy in Lower Onslow with the awesome gardens.
Arnold was born on Michaelmas Day and was the youngest son of the late Lionel and Marjorie Selway of Axminster, Devon, England.
He is survived by his loving partner, Leisa Burton; daughters, Angela (Rob) Hunt, England; Julie Selway (Jian Xiong), Sudbury, Ontario; son, Tony (Tracy) Selway, Riverview, New Brunswick; Leisa’s children, Mark (Julie) Mitchell, Meg (Matt) Burton, Josh (Cassie) Burton, Justin (Kelly) Burton; and much loved eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister, Ann “Myrt” (Peter Sutton); brothers, Henry (Deanne) Selway, Michael (Hazel) Selway; and several nieces, nephews and cousins in the United Kingdom. Arnold was predeceased by his wife, Christine (Horswill) in 2018; brother, Peter in infancy; and sister, Winnie Childs.
Arnold and Christine immigrated to Fort Ellis, Nova Scotia on March 29, 1967 and worked tirelessly and saved to buy their farm in Alton. He founded A. Selway Construction in 1972 and laid concrete in every county in Nova Scotia in his 50-year career. He was proud to have gained the respect and friendship of many farmers. Arn would like to acknowledge that he was blessed with very good friends and neighbors.
We would like to send a special thank you to the VON, EHS, palliative care teams in the community and the hospital and to the Onslow-Belmont Fire Brigade. We’d also like to thank everyone who visited and was supportive above and beyond.
Cremation has taken place, and we will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date at our home.
It is time for me to plow the back 40.
Final advice from Arnold: One day you will wake up and there won’t be anymore time to do the things that you’ve always wanted to. Do it now!
