Joseph Edward "Ed" McLellan

McLellan, Joseph Edward “Ed” – Age 82, of Shubenacadie, passed away on March 1, 2024 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Joseph McLellan and Hattie Kelly. Ed was raised by his mother and stepfather, the late Harry Horne.

Most of Ed’s working life was spent with NSLC, working many jobs from the warehouse to management, from where he retired after 30 years of service. He had a long-retired life which he made the most of, largely due to a liver transplant he had more than 23 years ago. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing the mandolin and fiddle with family and friends at kitchen parties in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. He loved bluegrass music, fiddle music and old-time country songs. As the country song, Choices, says, “we live and die by the choices we make” and Ed did that, beating the system.

He will always be loved and missed by sons, Dwayne, Kevin (Chrissy); grandsons, Justin and Matthew; brother, Bobby (Janet) Horne; sister, Debbie (Benny) DeBay; two nieces and two nephews; aunts, Winnie Reid and Viola Alyward and extended family in New Brunswick.

He was predeceased by his wife, Judith; brother, Roger; and sister-in-law, Sandra.

Cremation has taken place.

A private family service will be held at a later date in Preeper Hill Cemetery, Shubenacadie.

Thanks to the VON staff for allowing Ed to stay in his home as long as he did. Many thanks to the CEHHC staff for the kindness and care shown to Ed, particularly on the East Wing of the second and third floor.

Memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation or your local SPCA.
