James "Jim" Edward Swinimer

Swinimer, James “Jim” Edward. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father James “Jim” Edward Swinimer, on March 19, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, Jim passed away at age 93 in Admiral Long Term Care, Dartmouth. He was born December 1930, to James and Hazel (Sawler) Swinimer in Western Shore.

In 1953, Jim married the love of his life, Joan Theresa, and they spent 60 wonderful years, growing a family and building a legacy of love.

Of all the titles Jim held in life his favorites were Dad, Grampie and Great-grampie. He was the happiest spending time with his sons, sons-in-law and grandsons, fishing, and hunting.

A gifted artist who loved the outdoors Jim would draw and paint pictures of his favorite places, often giving these special pieces of art to friends and family. In later years, his visits with friends and family often included multiple games of crib and Jim rarely lost.

Dad loved to have visits with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, reminiscing about the days gone by and playing with the kids.

Jim was predeceased by his wife, Joan; his parents; parents-in-law, Agnes and William Clarke; sons, Michael (Joan) and James; brother, Wayne; sisters, Florence and Olive.

He is survived by his sons, Peter (Alexandra); Dana (Lorrie); daughters, Jo-anne (George) Oxtoby; Tanya (Keith) Turple; daughter-in-law, Tracey; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Patsey (Ron) Clarke.

Thank you to the loving staff of Admiral Long Term Care. You all made our dad smile a lot and for that we applaud you. A special mention to the recreation department and Lisa, who ensured that Dad was never bored and made sure that he always felt like a part of the community.

There will be no funeral at Dad’s request. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society and M.S. Society. An open house in honour of Jim’s memory will be held on Friday, March 29th at the home of his grandson, Matthew Oxtoby at 24 Sarah Crescent in Dartmouth from 2:00 p.m. onward.

“We love you to the moon and back.”
