Purcell, John “Jack” Edward – age 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, February 3, 2024 in QEII Infirmary Site.
Born and raised in Halifax, Jack later became a longtime resident of Mill Lake, Upper Musquodoboit.
Jack’s work ethic was admirable and always to the highest of standards. This was to his advantage when he began his career as a stationary engineer at Light and Power in his early twenties and later when he accepted a position at Dalhousie University Power Plant. Jack’s knowledge and practical abilities would also help when he went to work at Betz (Hercules) as a salesman for heavy water and chemical treatment products. Over the next 30 years, Jack built himself a strong reputaion by fostering great relationships with clients and peers. At the time of his retirement he held the position of District Manager for Hercules Pulp and Paper Division.
Jack is survived by his wife of 43 years, Donna (Reynolds); son, Todd Purcell; daughter, Leanne Purcell-Hodder (Gerry); grandsons, Liam Hodder and Lane Purcell; brothers, Larry Purcell (Laurel), Bob Purcell (Pauline); brother-in-law, Frank Mombourquette.
He was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Doris (Leahy) Purcell; sisters, Marie Upcott and Barbara Mombourquette; brother-in-law, Gerry Upcott.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
A visitation will be held Thursday, February 8 from 6 – 8 p.m. Funeral service will be Friday, February 9 at 2 p.m., both in Middleton United Church, 12430 Highway 224, Middle Musquodoboit. All are welcome.
