Patricia Helen (McGuire) Stewart

Stewart (McGuire), Patricia Helen – On November 8, 2023, many hearts were broken with the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Patricia Helen (McGuire) Stewart at the age of 88 years. She passed away at home surrounded by her loving family.

Pat was born and raised in New Glasgow. She went on to complete her RN diploma in Ontario then enjoyed a 20-year career on the maternity ward in Colchester Hospital.

Pat was the mother of eight children in ten years. To them, “Mommy was the strongest woman we ever met”. She realized the value of education and was adamant that all of her children graduate from high school. She loved her family unconditionally, and enjoyed celebrating their accomplishments. In the early 70s she could be seen in the rink with seven cheerleaders pounding on the glass encouraging young Dan.

A testament to the love for their mother, Pat’s phone rang off the hook daily as her children called her (at their allotted time slot) to check in and let her know their news of the day.

Pat loved playing cards with her daughters and best friend, Gwen. Always ready for a match, she won her final two games of auction 45s on November 5th.

She spent the last eleven summers on Shortts Lake allowing us all to be kids again. She enjoyed washer toss, volleyball and sitting on the deck watching sailboats and sunsets with family and friends.

Pat was a faithful parishioner of the Roman Catholic Church.

She will be sadly missed by her children, Danny (Lexie), Kathy (Wayne), Sherry (Roger), Patty (John), Kelly (Mark) Alexa (Kerri), Jacqueline (Brent), Terry; and her loving brother, Laddie. She was fondly known to her 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren as “Nan”.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 51 years, Floyd Douglas Stewart; siblings, Leonard, Jack, Francis, Edward, Mary and June; parents, Frank and Amelia McGuire.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Pelley for her compassion and kindness over the years.

Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to St. Bridget’s Roman Catholic Church, Shubenacadie or Pine Grove Cemetery, Stewiacke East.

A private burial will be held at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery.

No visitation by request.

Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 14 at 2:30 in St. Bridget’s Roman Catholic Church.
