Barker, William “Bill” James – Age 93, of Dartmouth, passed away January 8, 2022 in Dartmouth General Hospital.
Born in Woodside, he was a son of the late Henry and Gladys (Hertle) Barker.
Bill had been employed as a rigger with Dartmouth Marine Slips for over 45 years. When not working, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to the country.
He will always be loved and missed by his wife of almost 65 years, Shirley (Gammell); daughters, Janice (Trevor) Leslie, and Judy West. Bill was extremely proud of his grandchildren, Courtney Avery (Craig Sears), Danielle West (Corey Publicover), Cory West (Katie Burton); and great-grandchildren, Alivia and Everly Publicover. He is also survived by sister, Darlene (Kenneth) Coolen; brothers-in-law, Wayne Gammell (Glenda), Victor MacKinnon, Alvin Lemmon; sisters-in-law, Frances Perrin, Martha Gammell, Wanda Smith, Nancy Gammell, Jane Stewart; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by granddaughter, Whitney Avery; brother, Ross (Gwen); sisters, Ruth (Bill) Hubbard, Mary and Joyce in infancy; father and mother-in-law, Cecil and Mona Gammell; brothers-in-law, Terence, Calvin, Gordon Gammell, Dave Perrin, Kennard Smith; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Lemmon, Beverly Gammell and Dorothy MacKinnon.
Cremation has taken place.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.
Memorial donations may be made to The Lung Association of Nova Scotia, Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice.
