Dykeman, Lawrence Howard “Lonnie” – Age 84, of Dean, passed away May 15, 2017, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Upper Musquodoboit, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Maizie (Geddes) Dykeman.
Lonnie was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator all of his working life. He enjoyed tinkering in the garage on old cars, and thought that he had a full life.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be sadly missed by wife, the former Victoria Flemming; children, Rod (Linda), Curtis (Wilma), Lonnie Jr. (Val), Thomas (Bonnie), Violet (Tim) Currie, Veldena, Victoria, Donna, adopted daughter, Vi Blenkhorn; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; sister-in-law, Faye Dykeman; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Marvin, Herman, Alden, Ivan; a brother and sister in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held on Friday at 3 p.m. in Hillcrest Cemetery, Upper Musquodoboit, Rev. Michael Henderson officiating. A reception will follow downstairs in St. James United Church. No flowers by request. Memorial donations may be made to Arimathea Funeral Cooperative.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the 4th floor in Dartmouth General Hospital for their care and kindness in Lonnie’s final days.
