Benvie, Kea Annetta – Age 87, of Truro and formerly of Brookfield, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2016, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Natick, Mass., and raised in Pembroke near Upper Stewiacke, she was a daughter of the late Harold Beveridge and Henrika Annetta (Fulton) Graham.
She obtained her RN at Highlandview Hospital, Amherst, in 1949. In 1951, Kea married Grant Benvie and they resided in Brookfield for the next 55 years before moving to Truro. Kea enjoyed her home greatly, cooking and knitting for her family, as well as preparing produce for year-round use from the large vegetable garden she shared with Grant. Kea also enjoyed the many people she and Grant met during the years when he made fiddles in his workshop. Kea was a member of Knox United Church, Brookfield, as well as the UCW.
She is survived by her husband, Grant; children, Graham (Ilonka Venier Alexander), Port Maitland; Leah (Craig) Hamilton, Allister (Jane), both of Upper Stewiacke; Kenneth, Melissa MacKenzie, both of Truro; Jim (Kathy) Alberta; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Florence (Len) Adams, Neil (Mary), Woody (Ruth), Eldon (Joyce), Beverly Sears, Bernice Byers, Ronal (Alvera), Ross (Marjorie); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her four-legged friend, Duffy.
Funeral service will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Knox United Church, Brookfield, Rev. Keith Gale officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Upper Stewiacke. Family flowers only. If desired, donations may be made in Kea’s honour to Colchester East Hants Health Foundation – Community Transition Unit.
