McKinley, Florence Mary

McKinley, Florence Mary – Age 83, Dartmouth. It is with a deep, profound sadness and loss we announce the sudden passing of Florence Mary McKinley on the afternoon of June 8, 2015 in Dartmouth General Hospital, with family at her side. Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late John Joseph and Katherine Mary (McPhee) Gillis. She is survived by her children, Mark (Cheryl), Beth (Denis) LeClair; Mike, Jean; sister, Carmel MacDonald, Sydney; grandchildren, Tabitha, Stephen, Jade; great-grandson, Ben. She was predeceased by brother, David; sister, Peggy Gillis.

“Mama Flo” was considered a second mom to her children’s many friends. A strong, dedicated and courageous woman, she started her career as a flight attendant for TWA, and retired as a nurse from the Nova Scotia Hospital in 1995, having received her long-service award. All who knew her couldn’t help but love her. She was compassionate to a fault, willing to help someone in need whenever she could.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit. Funeral mass will be Saturday at 12 noon, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Woodside, Father James Richards officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Lung Association Nova Scotia, or a charity of choice.

The family would like to thank her best friend, Joy Smith, for always being there for her.

Mom, you taught us your strengths, compassion and humility. You’ll always be missed and never forgotten. We love you so much.

Wilson, James Timothy

Wilson, James Timothy – Age 82, East Chezzetcook, passed away peacefully, on June 2, 2015, in Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, Musquodoboit Harbour, with his family at his side. Born on February 2, 1933, in Goose River, P.E.I., he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary Jane (McInnis) Wilson. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 56 years, Blanche (Jamieson); his children, Tina (Lloyd), Tim (Sue), Margaret (Gerald), Janie (Dale); his 12 grandchildren; and five, soon to be six, great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind many good friends.

He will be fondly remembered for his wit, charm, gentleness, wisdom, storytelling, and great bear hugs. Jimmy was an avid gardener who loved nature, animals, and children.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held on Friday at 11 a.m., in St. Anselm’s Catholic Church, West Chezzetcook, with Father Randy Doucette officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association, your local Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of choice.

van der Leest, Jan

van der Leest, Jan – Of Upper Economy. It is with great sadness that Jan’s family announces his passing on May 27, 2015, in Colchester East Hants Health Center, Truro. This followed a long battle with cancer, which he fought with courage and dignity. Born in Emmen, The Netherlands, on November 15, 1941, he immigrated to Canada in 1968 and settled in Truro, where he met and married Akke (Meijer). They lovingly raised four children: Jean Rémi, Yuri Alexis, Kristin Jacoba and Jan-Mark.

He matriculated with a Master’s degree in Soil Science from MacDonald College in Montreal, and went on to spend 11 years with the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture. He moved on to own and operate Trident International Services and became known as a bailiff who treated all who crossed his path with respect. There was rarely a day when a smile could not be found on his face, a smile that captured the heart of Carolyn (Matthews), who became his second wife in 2003. Jan’s love of music led him to establish a world-class organ museum which served as the inspiration for “At the Organery”, a four and a half star bed and breakfast and tea room where he and Carolyn welcomed travellers from across the globe.

Jan was predeceased by his parents, Jenne and Henderkien (Eekhof) van der Leest; his first wife, Akke; his siblings, Jouke and Annie. He is survived by his children, Rémi (Leslie), Yuri, Kristin and Jan-Mark (Pascale); his wife, Carolyn, and her children, Pam, Tim (Margaret), Matthew; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Henk (Katri); sister, Alie (Rob).

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit. A celebration of Jan’s life will be held at a later date at their haven in Upper Economy. Donations may be made to Colchester East Hants Hospice Society.

Graham, Arthur Harvey

Graham, Arthur Harvey – Age 79, of Eastville, passed away May 24, 2015, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Maxwell and Reta (Pineo) Graham. For many years he worked in the lumber industry, and later, at Michelin Tire. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

Surviving are daughters, Bonnie Leigh and Karen, both of Truro; son, Garth, Rawdon; grandchildren, Jason and Jennifer; great-grandson, Jahmal; brothers, Gerald (Bev), Eastville; Leon (Nancy), Sundre, Alta.; Gordon (Mary), Edmonton, Alta.; sisters, Maxine (Laurie) Monk, Brookfield; Evelyn (Richard) Cox, Dean; sister-in-law, Shirley Graham, Brookfield; nieces and nephews; caretakers, Lorne and Sam Smeltzer. He was predeceased by brother, Howard; two nieces.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. on June 6 in Eastville Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Art’s Life in Springside Church Hall. Graham, Wayne Stewart

Graham, Wayne Stewart – Age 53, Burnside, Upper Stewiacke, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Truro on December 16, 1961, he was a son of Pauline Ellen (MacKay) and the late John Parker “Jack” Graham. Raised in Burnside, Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, his extensive music collection, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a friend to many people and could always be counted on to lend a hand with anything that was needed. He was often called upon by friends and neighbours to help with electrical, plumbing, auto or appliance repair, and more often than not, would not accept any money for his time. He was a long-time member of Burnside Community Club, and caretaker of Proven and Pembroke cemeteries.

Besides his mother, Wayne is survived by his common-law spouse of 18 years, Cindy Higgins; mother-in-law, Esther Higgins, Upper Musquodoboit; stepchildren whom he considered his own, John (Bobbi) Hamilton, Brookfield; David (Sandra Landry), Burnside; brothers, Richard (Lesley) Graham, Bedford; Michael (Kathy Ruggles), Grande Prairie, Alta.; sister, Paulette Read, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Annabelle, Jaylyn, Kacey, Kolton, Lukas, Taylor and Jada; several nieces and nephews in Nova Scotia and Alberta. Besides his father, he was predeceased by his father-in-law, Russell Higgins; son, Cpl. Thomas Hamilton, killed in action in Afghanistan in 2008.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit. Family will meet friends for a time of remembrance in Burnside Community Hall on Saturday, April 25, starting at 7 p.m. Burial will be at a later date in Proven Cemetery, Burnside. Gaffney, Shirley Marie

Gaffney, Shirley Marie – Age 81, Dartmouth, passed away May 24, 2015 in Melville Lodge, Halifax. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Victor and Elsie (DeWolfe) Redmond. Shirley looked forward to family gatherings which always involved a meal. She enjoyed the friendliness of the people at St. Anthony’s Bingo.

Surviving are daughter, Karen (Greg) Horne; son, Michael (Heather); granddaughters, Tara, Shona, Stephanie, Nicole, Jennifer; five great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Glawson; brother, Victor (Doreen) Redmond; two half-brothers and two half-sisters. She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard “Ted”; son, Shawn, in infancy; great-grandson, Emerson; brother, Murray (Bridgette) Redmond.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit. Ted and Shirley will be buried together at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association.

Rodgers, Vicki Lynn

Rodgers, Vicki Lynn – Age 59, born August 20, 1955, passed away peacefully May 21, 2015, at her home in Truro, with caregivers, sister, Sharon, and dear friend, Debby Alexander, by her side. Vicki’s light shone bright and left an imprint on all she met. She was a pillar of joy, full of laughter and compassion. She was outgoing, intelligent, strong, vibrant and spirited. She loved gardening, wine, travelling, music, art, literature, and film. More than anything, she loved her family and friends deeply.

She is survived by her loving partner, Sterling Kaulback. He was her caring and compassionate mate, by her side always. Sterling dedicated his life to her well-being, which her family will always remember. Her son, Sam and wife, Jennifer, grandsons, Wyatt and Osmund, and her son, John and partner, Belinda, will all miss her warm smile, as will Peter, father of her sons and a friend who remained close to her for many years. Sister, Sharon Daniels, cared compassionately for Vicki in the twilight of her life, in the way that only the closest people in our lives can. Vicki’s nieces, Erin, Terilyn, Nicole and Melanie, and her nephews, Adam and Christopher, all held tight bonds and special relationships with her. Her mother, Glenna McLean, the great architect who helped shape Vicki’s infectious and beautiful spirit, and her sister Cynthia, will cherish a lifetime of memories with her. An extended number of family and friends will also remember Vicki in the fondest way. Vicki was predeceased by her father, Robert, and sister, Deborah.

Cremation has taken place. A tribute to Vicki’s life will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, in the Holiday Inn, Truro. A private tribute will be held the following day for close family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Colchester East Hants Hospice Society or Wentworth Baptist Cemetery.

Roberts, Ron

Roberts, Ron – Former Cornwall, Ont. resident, broadcaster Ron Roberts, self-dubbed "The Rotund One", passed away in Halifax following a short illness. Ron began his radio career in Cornwall at CJSS in the late '40s, hired by then-manager Harrison Flint. Further career stops included CFRA Ottawa where he worked for Frank Ryan and with Fred Davis. Next came Chatham, Ont, Massena and Syracuse, NY, and CJAD Montreal, then settling in Halifax radio in the early '70s. Ron was an ardent Frank Sinatra fan and treasured an autographed photo received from his idol.

He is survived by his sister, Eleanor Reid of Almonte, Ont; nieces, Lynn Upson of Brantford, Ont., Robyn Johnson of Kingston, Ont. and Jocelyn McPhail of Almonte, Ont; nephews, Jack Roberts of London, Ont., Jeff Evason of Maryland, USA; and cousin Joan Evason of Cornwall Ont. Ron was predeceased by his parents, Lambert and Kathleen Roberts, and older brother, Maurice.

A memorial service has been planned for mid-June in Halifax.

He will be missed.

Munroe, Ruth "Mae”

Munroe, Ruth "Mae” – It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our beautiful and beloved Mae, age 70, of Musquodoboit Harbour, on May 15, 2015, at home. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Sinclair Benjamin and Grace Evelyn (Crooks) Faulkner. Mae was a very genuine and kind person who radiated to everyone she met. She loved animals, and her little dog Sassy meant the world to her. Prior to retirement, Mae worked for the Red Cross as a homecare worker; she loved working with the elderly and cared for each of her clients as if they were her own family. Mae was very artistic, and shared her passionate enthusiasm for tole painting, teaching classes at Country Treasures. She loved reading, attending flea markets, and travelling. She most recently flew on her own for the first time to South Carolina, where she enjoyed a month-long vacation of sun, shopping and lots of laughter. Mae enjoyed a beautiful Mother's Day with her loving family and said it was the best Mother's Day she ever had. Mae and Robert spent their last evening together doing what she loved most, waltzing in their kitchen to the sound of Conway Twitty.

Mae is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Robert; her children whom she adored, Sherry-Lynn (Doug Graham), Rhonda (Wes Wiley), Ronnie (Karen Sutherland), Tammy, and stepson, Robbie. Mae absolutely loved being surrounded by her family, especially her cherished grandchildren, Justin Day, Wesley and Lindsey Wiley, Michael Weatherley, Courtney and Connor Sutherland; sisters, Virginia "Jenny" Faulkner (Darryl Fader), Evelyn (Philip) Walker; extended family, Barbara Kaulback, Emma Brown, Florence Prosser; in-laws, Mary (Reg Ridgley), Nancy (David Harding), Shirley MacKay, Bill Sutherland (Margie), Sharlene Woods; several nieces and nephews; best friends since childhood, Linda and Butch McGinn; special friends, Wanda and Donnie Manuel.

At Mae's request, cremation has taken place. There will be a Celebration of Mae's Life held on Friday, May 22, at 10 a.m., in St. James Anglican Church, 66 Dolby Hill Rd., Head of Jeddore. Stanley, Lee

Stanley, Lee – Age 66, of Halifax. It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our dear father, husband, and best friend. Lee was born August 2, 1948, in High Point, North Carolina, to the late Elijah and Ola Mae Stanley. Work in the music industry brought Lee to Nova Scotia where he met his wife of 32 years, Peggy Milsom, at the Misty Moon bar, exclaiming to a friend, “I am going to marry that girl” the moment he laid eyes on her, and so it was. He was a wonderful father to his two children; they were his pride and joy. After a long career in both music and film, Lee thoroughly enjoyed the last 9 years of his career driving for Halifax Transit. Lee had a passion for gardening and travelling, and most of all loved spending time with his family and friends.

Lee is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughter, Lillian; son, Nikolas; sister, Brenda Hart, High Point, NC; stepmother, Pauline “Polly” Stanley (Stevens, PA); sister-in-law, Sally Langille; brothers-in-law, Rob Langille, Douglas Milsom; and many much-loved nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Danny; brothers-in-law, Bruce and Scott Milsom; mother-in-law, Katherine Archibald.

Lee’s kind, compassionate spirit will be missed by so many people whose lives he touched.

Keeping, Bernard Harvey

Keeping, Bernard Harvey – Age 60, of Dartmouth, passed away May 9, 2015, at home, surrounded by family. Although Bernie had a short struggle with cancer, he faced it with great strength and dignity. Bernie was born in Middle Musquodoboit, and was a lifelong resident of north-end Dartmouth. He was a son of Doreen (Gilbert) Moore and the late Harvey Keeping. He had been a proud employee of Pepsi Canada for over 40 years. In that time, he earned many recognitions for his work.

Surviving are sisters, Peggy Lamb (Bob), Charlene Moore (Peter); brothers, Charles Moore (Dwayne), Linden Richardson, Glen Dominaux (Rose); nine nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his stepfather, Charles Moore.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of Bernie’s life in The Ship Victory on Wednesday at 7 p.m. A family committal service will be held in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, Main Street, at 11 a.m. on Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Gale, Sylvia Etta

Gale, Sylvia Etta – Age 76, Sheet Harbour, passed away May 4, 2015, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Caribou Gold Mines, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Verna (Kindervater) Brown. Sibby was an avid walker and loved the outdoors. Her family came first in her life and she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She will always be loved by daughters, Kathy (Chris), Moncton; Kelly, Sheet Harbour; grandchildren, Brittany (Nathaniel), Jake; great-granddaughters, Lily and Briea; seven sisters, two brothers. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter.

Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be Friday at 2 p.m. in Living Water Baptist Church, Sheet Harbour, Pastor Steve Brunt officiating. Burial will be at a later date. No flowers by request. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Caborn, Lorne “Keith”

Caborn, Lorne “Keith” – Age 64, Meaghers Grant. It is with loving memory and great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Lorne Keith Caborn on April 29, 2015 in Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital, Middle Musquodoboit, with family at his side. Born in Kingston, Ont., he was a son of Rose (Sleight) Caborn and the late Elmer Caborn. Keith’s teaching career spanned over 32 years, beginning in St. Peter’s and later moving to Musquodoboit Rural High School, Sackville High School, and Eastern Shore District High School. One of his great passions was coaching basketball, and he did so at the junior and senior levels for both boys and girls. He had a talented creative flare for acting, writing, and performing. His family loved to listen to him play his guitar and sing. Keith enjoyed building and renovating things, especially his cottage in Pictou. After retiring, he attended NSCC Stellarton Campus to learn cabinetry, putting his acquired skills to good use. He also enjoyed family poker games, winning at scrabble, and curling, most recently at the Bluenose Curling Club. As golf was one of his greatest passions (even getting a hole in one) and because he enjoyed the early morning hours, he worked the past few years at River Oaks Golf Course as part of the grounds crew, carefully mowing the very greens he loved to play on. Keith had an amazing positive outlook on life and left a lasting impression on those who knew him. We will all miss his great sense of humour and sharp wit.

Surviving are his wife, Gloria (Pratt); son, Lorne; daughter Kelly (Cecil Sampson); grandchildren, Damian, Gauge, Makyla; siblings, Linda (Jim Mitchell), Roy, Calvin (Jing-Mei), Kathy (Robert Bruce), several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Lillian Pratt; sister-in-law, Dorothy Matthews (Glen); brother-in-law, Joel Pratt (Susan). He was predeceased by sister, Mary; son, James in infancy.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. in St. James United Church, 4217 Highway 357, Meaghers Grant. Rev. Dr. Linda Yates will preside at a Celebration of Life service on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Meaghers Grant Community Hall, 4413 Hwy. 357. A reception will follow the service. Family flowers only. Laybolt, Judith Ellen

Laybolt, Judith Ellen – Age 67, Musquodoboit Harbour, passed away April 30, 2015. Born in Halifax, Judy was the eldest daughter of the late Harold and Kathleen (Orman) Ryan. At the age of 10, Judy moved with her family to Musquodoboit Harbour. When her husband and children were younger, they took many camping trips. She enjoyed knitting and sewing, and couldn’t wait to go to bingo.

Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Ivan; children, Trina (Ellis Carroll), Elmsdale; Robert (Brandi), Musquodoboit Harbour; Duane, Musquodoboit Harbour and Bridgewater; grandchildren, Nicholas, Kayla and Kaitlyn Carroll, Elmsdale; Christopher, Austin and Anthony Laybolt, Bridgewater; sisters, Noreen Stevens (Ken), Kim King (Kevin); brothers, David (Cheryl), Gerry, Mark (Gina); sisters-in-law, Bonita (Melvin) Day, Catherine Gordon; brothers-in-law, Wilson (Donna), Earl (Chris), Milton (Lorna).

Power, Monica Isabel – 1928-2015, of Stewiacke, and formerly of Westmount, Cape Breton, passed away April 28, 2015, at the age of 86, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Westmount, she was a daughter of the late Catherine Sarah (MacDonald) and John L. MacLellan. Monica is survived by daughters, Theresa Power, Gail Alexander, both of Halifax; Debbie (Joe) DeLazzer, Stewiacke; granddaughters, Terri Lee (Ewan) MacLeod and their son, Alex; Derina DeLazzer; grandson, Dustin DeLazzer. She was predeceased by sister, Mary (Prendergast) (Babcock) Woodworth; brothers, James, Jerome, Daniel, John, and Gus.

Sweet, Joan Lillian

Sweet, Joan Lillian – Age 93, Lake Charlotte, passed away April 25, 2015, in The Birches Nursing Home, Musquodoboit Harbour. Born in Dorking, Surrey, England, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Jessica (Heath) Stevens. Joan married Elliot Sweet and came to Canada as a war bride in April 1946 aboard HMHS Letitia.

Surviving are her daughters, Peggy Sweet, Shirley Campbell; son, Peter, and their families; many nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and was predeceased by siblings, Peggy, Phyllis, Hettie, Robert, as well as her husband, Elliot.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in Lake Charlotte Union Church on May 9 at 1 p.m., Rev. Joan Griffin officiating. Burial to be in Union Church Cemetery, Lake Charlotte. Anderson, Ross Thomas

Anderson, Ross Thomas – Age 87, Lower East Chezzetcook, passed away Friday, April 17, 2015, in Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, Musquodoboit Harbour. Born in Lower East Chezzetcook, he was a son of the late Thomas and Hilda (Owens) Anderson. Surviving are his wife, Marilyn; children, Barbara MacDonald, Dan Anderson, Mary Richardson, all of Dartmouth; grandchildren, Amber, Ryan, Ashley, Cody; great-grandson, Grayson. He also leaves behind his brother, Donald (Shirley); sister, Shirley (Victor) Shrum. He was predeceased by his brothers, Murray, Charles, Laurie; sister, Hazel Bateman.

Cremation has taken place. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Pleasant Point Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice.

Meagher, Harold Laurie “Tiny”

Meagher, Harold Laurie “Tiny” – Age 73, of Truro. It is with heartfelt sadness that we say goodbye to our gentle giant, Tiny, who passed away April 19, 2015. Born May 20, 1941, in Windsor Junction, he was the only son of Harold “Bub” and Hilda (Kehoe) Meagher. Tiny was a people’s person who could find someone he knew wherever he went. His first passion and joy was his family. An avid vehicle enthusiast, you never knew what he might be driving with his favorite being a Lincoln Town Car. Tiny was a wonderful dancer and you would have to stand in line to have a dance with him. A veteran of the Congo Crisis in the early 60s, he stayed in touch with his fellow Signal Corps comrades and attended many of their reunions.

Tiny is survived by his wife, Loretta (Price), whose love and care sustained him throughout his courageous battle with bone cancer. Also survived by his daughter, Suzanne Totten (Kevin), Truro; sons, Michael (Donna), Truro; Wayne (Shelley), Fort Ellis; Darryl (Teresa), Debert; Bob Rundle (Sharon), Middle Sackville; John Rundle, New Glasgow; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters, Susan Doucette (Doug), Halifax; Mary McFarland (Owen), Windsor Junction; Jane Scott (David), Enfield; Peggy Wilshurst, Dartmouth; brothers, Leo, Windsor Junction; Ivan (Irene), Dartmouth; stepmother, Glenda (Hamilton) Meagher. Besides his parents, Tiny was predeceased by his sisters, Jeanne Caudle (Eddie) (Truro) and Judy Vance (Steven) (North River).

There will not be a service by Tiny’s request and no flowers please. Donations may be made in Tiny’s name to the Colchester branch of Palliative Care or any charity of your choice.

Sincere thanks to Palliative Care and the VON whose thoughtfulness and respect for Tiny was greatly appreciated and to all those who spent time, sent cards and showed support. Special thanks to Janice, Maynard, Tracy, Anthony and Connor.

A celebration of Tiny’s life will be held at a later date.

Clattenburg, Frances Marie

Clattenburg, Frances Marie – Of Musquodoboit Harbour, passed away on March 17th, 2015, at the age of 96. She was a daughter of the late Philip and Marjorie (Greenough) Warner. Born in Halifax, she was predeceased by her husband, Harold and her son, Philip. She was also predeceased by sisters, Ruth and Dorothy; brothers, Hallard, Russell, Howard and Baby Paul. Frances is survived by her son, Howard; daughters, Dianne and Linda (Carter), and brother, Lewis. She is also survived by several grandchildren and many extended family members.

Frances enjoyed bingo, cards (especially cribbage), shopping, craft shows, poetry and reading. She and her husband were lovely dancers, her favourite dance being the Round Waltz. She bowled for many years, winning awards. Another favourite pastime was going for drives and exploring the back roads of Nova Scotia. She was an excellent cook and baker, sharing her goodies with everybody. She was very talented at needlework and did perfect hand sewing. She had special memories of several trips to the United States and within Canada, from Newfoundland to Haida Gwaii. Frances was a stay-at-home mother for many years, after which she worked at Jacobsons and Eatons.

A funeral service in memory of Frances will be held in St. Thomas Anglican Church, Musquodoboit Harbour on May 22nd at 2 p.m.

Even as the sun goes down to end the light of

day, it is rising on a new horizon somewhere

Miller, Thomas Leigh

Miller, Thomas Leigh – Greenwood and formerly of Shubenacadie. July 10, 1958 – April 16, 2015. It is with sadness but great joy to know that our brother went home to be with Jesus and is now with Mom and Dad. Tom was a cook in the Canadian Navy from 1979-1985, where he was posted to the west coast. He served on HMCS Gatineau and various other naval ships. He later worked with IMP Halifax Airport for over 20 years.

Surviving are brothers, Colin and David; sisters, Cynthia (Vincent Toney), Marie Miller, Debbie Miller (Sandy MacIntosh); six nieces, one nephew, and many great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Colin and Mary (Campbell) Miller.

Visitation will be Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and funeral mass will be Monday at 2 p.m., both in St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, Shubenacadie, Rev. Wilfred Boudreau officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the parish cemetery. The family will meet friends for a reception downstairs in the church following the service.
