Gibbons, Barbara Mary (Amer) - It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Barbara Mary (Amer) Gibbons, announce her passing in Oakwood Terrace Nursing Home, Dartmouth on March 11, 2025 at the age of 87.
Barb was born in Halifax to George and Mary (Purcell) Amer.
Barb is survived by daughter, Candace Shatford (Glen); son, Bryon Gibbons (Ann); grandchildren, Leland, Carling, Mitchel, Connor, Shea; and great-grandchildren, Toni, Beau, Noah and Max.
Barb was predeceased by her husband, Michael; her parents, George and Mary; brother, Junior; mother-in-law, Hilda and father-in-law, Harold Gibbons.
Barb had a brief career in the RCN as a Wren in Cornwallis, N.S where she met her husband, Mike.
Barb was educated in Ontario, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia where in 1956 she attended the Nova Scotia Normal College and attained her teaching degree. She taught in Shelburne and at Graham Creighton High School in 1964 and then would teach at Robert Jamieson School in Oyster Pond Jeddore until her retirement.
A special thank you to the staff at Oakwood Nursing Home, especially the staff on Unit C. The family truly appreciates the care and compassion Mom received while at Oakwood.
Cremation has taken place.
Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative.
No visitation. A private family service will take place at a later date.
