Hines, Leslie Lawrence – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Born in Lantz, he was a son of the late Stuart and Opal (Isenor) Hines.
Dad joined the Army and became a member of the Black Watch Regiment of Canada in 1960 until he transferred in 1970 to the Royal Canadian Regiment where he served until 1980. He served in Cyprus in 1974. Upon retirement from the regular forces, he joined the reserves and went back to his kilt days from the Black Watch to the kilt of the 1st Bn Nova Scotia Highlanders (N) from 1980 until 1986. He was once told by a female spectator of a parade that he knew how to make a kilt move.
He worked for Elmsdale Lumber where they called him Sarge.
Dad was always ready with a good one-liner, a good joke and he loved to tell old Army stories. His sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Gloria, Carroll’s Corner; daughters, Debbie (Roger), New Glasgow; Connie, Las Vegas; Karen (Wayne), Carroll’s Corner; son, Stephen (Becky), Antigonish; grandchildren, Lechelle, Halifax; Stephanie (Chris), Ottawa; Morgan (Jacob), Middle Sackville; Connor, Halifax; Dane, San Diego; Brett (Jessilynn), Eastern Passage; Emma (Sierra), Halifax; great-grandson, Arthur, Ottawa; sisters, Gloria and Marcia; brothers-in-law, Clyde, Kirk, Curtis, Danny and Todd; sister-in-law, Leca; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers, Terry and Clint; sisters, Sharon and Bonnie; and sister-in-law, Corrine.
We would like to thank the staff at Camp Hill for all the care they gave Les.
Cremation has taken place.
A graveside service will be held in spring.
