“A life so courageously lived deserves to be so sincerely remembered.”
Cutler, Carl “Newf” Winston – age 65, of Economy, passed away on April 12, 2024. He was born in Cobb’s Arm, Newfoundland to the late Gifford and Julie (Hurley) Cutler.
Carl arrived in Economy in 1972 and made this community his life long place of residency (never too far from the water).
At his young and tender age, the community became his family and he was so dearly loved by all. With a true Newfoundland heart, Carl’s home had an open-door policy whether you were looking for a smoke, a drink, food or to dance a jig while listening to old Newfie tunes. He would welcome you with a huge smile and great hospitality.
Carl leaves behind his loving wife, Vanda “Lovey” (Clark); son and mini-me, Mark “Markadinis”; daughter, Amanda “Toots-a-roo”; and the prides of his life, his grandchildren, Renae “Boo Boo” (Matt), Houlton “Ol Boy”, and Abigail “Little Fart”. He had special nicknames for those close to him. Carl is also survived by the mother of his son, Patricia Venoitt and his siblings whom he held dearly in his heart, Marie, Douglas (Belle), Gladys, Wilfred (Josephine), Ivan (Dan’el), Geraldine, Audrey (Tony); sisters-in-law, Tammy (James), Tosha (Andy); brothers-in-law, Leslie (Debbie), Christopher, (Sherry) and David (Nadine). Carl had many nieces and nephews all of whom he loved.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers-in-law, Charlie Hammond and Bert White.
May the many friends he has made over the years remember him by:
Above the stars in Heaven’s vast skies,
will be OUR true Newf so gentle and wise.
With strength and heart as deep as the sea,
a loyal friend he will always be.
“Long may your big jib draw”
We would like to give special thanks to our family and friends for their love and support during this difficult time and appreciation to the VON team and palliative care doctors and nurses.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Economy Recreation Centre on Saturday, April 27 from 2-4 p.m. Please wear your best nans (rubber boots) and a plaid shirt.
