David Wyn Jones

Jones, David Wyn - 1943 – 2024  Born in Prestatyn, North Wales, Wyn attended Ysgol Ardudwy in Harlech and met his future wife, Carole there. Following graduation, Wyn worked in sales for a book publishing company and spent his spare time playing his double base at various clubs in London and Liverpool. In 1967, he and Carole married in Harlech and emigrated to Canada. A daughter, born in 1971 and a son in 1978 completed his family. The following years were spent in Ontario working in the sale of art, ceramic tiles, and interior design. In 1983, he was awarded the SAM (Sales and Marketing) award and, in 1987, he opened his own interior design company in Eden Mills.

Retiring in 2007, Wyn and Carole moved to Nova Scotia where he designed their new home overlooking the ocean. Retirement years were spent travelling throughout different islands in the Caribbean and Central and South America. Wyn was a self-taught artist and chose to paint scenes from nature around his home. He was an avid reader of historical novels and could always be counted on to launch a stimulating conversation on past and present politics.  Many hours were spent listening to classical music and watching the ever-changing movement of the ocean. He loved to cook and always insisted that a touch of wine improved any recipe! Throughout his life, Wyn always had a dog – wherever he went, so did his dog. His latest one, still a pup, walked with him daily along the shore.

Wyn was proud of his children. The birth of each one, their accomplishments and their weddings were special highlights in his life – exceeded only by the addition of three grandchildren to his family!

Wyn’s life was unexpectedly cut short on March 4, 2024, at the age of 81, by cancer and he passed away, as he wished, at home to the sound of the waves.

Wyn is survived by his wife, Carole; daughter, Carys and husband, Ian; son, Gareth and wife, Viki; grandchildren, Anwyn, Benjamin and Elliot; and, in the UK, his sister, Megan (Jim) Frost; and nieces, Rhiannon and Bethan.

He is predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Gladys Jones.

Our thanks to the Home Care Team, the paramedics and the staff at MAID who helped to fulfill Wyn’s last wishes.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 24th in The Old School, Musquodoboit Harbour at 3 p.m.
