Sprague, Les – Les Sprague, age 82, of Lake Echo peacefully passed away, surrounded by family, on Saturday January 13, 2024, in Dartmouth General Hospital.
Born in Amherst, he was a son of Leona (Gould) and William J “Dick” Sprague.
Les is predeceased by his parents; brother, William; and sisters, Marilyn and Roberta.
He is survived by his sister, Alberta; his loving wife of sixty years, Betty (Johnson); sons, Christopher, Jeffery; daughter, Susan; grandchildren, Haley, Kristen, William, and David; great-grandchildren, Jay and Ozzy. Les has many nephews and nieces, all over Canada.
Les had a very successful amateur and professional boxing career as Canadian Junior Welterweight Champion and fought World Champion, Eddie Perkins in 1964. After boxing, Les worked as a barber in Eastern Passage and owned Sprague’s Well Drilling in Lake Echo for several years.
In recent years Les spent quality time with Betty at their home in Lake Echo overlooking Martin Lake and Lake Echo. Les also enjoyed going to his property on Walker Street, East Preston, where he created a fishing pond with hopes of having a relaxing spot for all to enjoy.
The family would like to thank the members of Fire Station 21, Lake Echo; EMS team; Dr. Louis Staple; Gavin Durham RN and all staff at Dartmouth General.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 27, 2024 from 2 - 4 p.m. in St. David’s United Church, 2723 Highway 7, Lake Echo.
