Thompson, Gary Ross – Age 81 of Enfield, formally of Nine Mile River, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 3, 2023 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.
Gary started his working career as a truck driver for Major Thompson Landscaping, moved on to own and operate the Fina gas station in Nine Mile River for many years until he went to work for Air Canada. After retirement he drove cars for Halifax Chrysler Dodge.
Gary enjoyed racing stock cars in his early years, tinkering with his antique cars, and singing and playing guitar for family and friends. He and his wife, Marg loved camping and travelling and spending their winters in their Florida home.
He will be forever loved and missed by his wife of 63 years, Margaret (Swaine); son, Bruce (Gina); and grandson, Tyler; siblings, Jackie, Barbara, and Bill; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Major and Carrie; sisters, Annie and Mildred.
Cremation has taken place.
The funeral service will be held in Nine Mile River United Church on Saturday, June 10 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Kim Curlett officiating. At the family’s request there will be no visitation or reception. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nine Mile River United Church.
The family would like to thank Dr. George Burden, Dr. Shahbaa Al-Mimar, Dr. Amye Harrigan, Kaitlyn McPhee , Joey Al-Molky, and his VON home care workers for their support and compassionate care.
