Smith, C. Maud – Maud died peacefully in Colchester East Hants Health Centre surrounded by family on June 15, 2023 at age 93.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Cleveland and Sarah (Kennedy) Munroe.
Maud grew up in Egerton, attending school in the area. She graduated from Provincial Normal School in 1948. Her teaching career included schools in Lagan, Marshy Hope, Egerton, Brookfield, Armdale and Truro, retiring in 1986 in Stewiacke. In summer she could be found working on the farm, gardening, and Saturday mornings were spent baking.
After retirement she found time for quilting, cross-stitch and many forms of handiwork which are cherished by those who received them and was active in community and United Church activities. She compiled a collection of photographs and memorabilia of the Town of Stewiacke.
She will be dearly missed by daughter, Susan Smith Doucet and son-in-law, Chris Doucet, Stewiacke; sister, Margaret (Dick) Chittick, Dartmouth; many nieces, nephews and their families.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Harold; son, Donald in infancy; brothers, John (Wilda) & James (in infancy); sisters, Janet (Stanley) and Katie (Elliott).
Special thanks to all organizations and individuals who assisted with her care at home over the past years especially VON home support & nurses, Today’s Nurse, Dr. Bachar Chalati and niece, Daphne; recently, Elk Court respite care & the compassionate staff of 3rd Floor Medical.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery, Stewiacke on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 2 pm with a gathering following at the home of her daughter.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
