Gwynn, John Ernest – Age 100, of Bedford, went home to be with the Lord on December 8, 2023.
Born in Aspy Bay, he was a son of the late Allen and Helen (MacAskill) Gwynn.
John was a Canadian Army Volunteer who served in the 6th Airborne Division as a paratrooper during the second World War in Canada, England and Germany. The majority of his working life he was a lightkeeper at five stations throughout Nova Scotia.
Surviving are sister, Virginia Sutherland; daughters, Colleen Taylor, Marlene (Chris) Blinder, Johnena (Christopher) Cavell; grandchildren, Derek, Lindsay, Nathan, Joshua, Jonathan, Rachel, David, Joseph, Brittany, Jessica; 14 great-grandchildren; and sixteen nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor; and six siblings.
Visitation will be Thursday, 7-9 p.m. with funeral service Friday at 11 a.m., both in New Hope Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Blinder officiating. Following the service, burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to New Hope Baptist Church.
