Thompson, Daniel Merlin- age 66, of Elmsdale, died November 16th, 2023 in the Magnolia after a short battle with cancer with his sisters at his side.
Dan was known for his great sense of humor and his kind, gentle soul; always ready to offer a helping hand when he could. He was an avid animal lover and advocate. He worked for over 30 years at the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park, receiving a Long Service Award in recognition and appreciation of thirty years of faithful service. This is where he met his lifelong friend, Russell Smith (Audrey) who remained his friend up to his passing. Dan was a huge Beatles fan, owning all original vinyl and collector cards; and the biggest Maple Leaf fan around. He was also a collector of baseball and hockey cards and enjoyed a good game of crib (trash talk included).
Dan will always be remembered by his brother, Gerry (Diane); sisters, Debby, Joanne (Dan), Sue (Martin), Kim (Vince), and many nieces and nephews.
Dan was predeceased by his parents, Merlin Ray Thompson and Treva Marion (Weir) Thompson.
Cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made in his honor to Canadian Cancer Society or a local SPCA.
Special thanks to the many caregivers who tried to comfort Dan and ease his pain during his last days.
