Abolit, Shirley Marie “Jim” – Age 85, of Elderbank passed away April 24, 2022 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.
Born in Elderbank, she was a daughter of the late Bill and Anna (Bain) Leedham.
Jim was an avid outdoors person and could be found on the ballfield many nights a week. She played competitively on many teams and was a member of the Royalettes Softball Team who went to the Canada Games. Jim was known for her quick wit, sharp tongue and always having the last word. She loved canoeing on the river from the time the ice went out.
Jim met her husband, Abby while in the Air Force. She loved playing cards and darts, always wanting to win with many trophies on the wall to show it.
She will always be loved and missed by her husband of 63 years, Edmund “Abby”; sons, Reynold “Rennie”, Gays River; Darrell, Cooks Lake; daughter, Michele (Tim) Flemming, Meaghers Grant; grandchildren, Loni, Kaitlyn, Daniel; three great-grandchildren; brother, Laurie (Linda); sister, Reta (Charles) Reid and their families.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by step-father, John Montgomery; sister, Thelma (Don) Gendron; daughter-in-law, Marianne Abolit; grandson, Billy Abolit.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 2, 7-9 p.m. downstairs in St. Andrews United Church, Elderbank. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no funeral service.
Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or St. Andrews United Church Building Fund.
Many thanks to the wonderful staff of second floor Community Transition Wing, Colchester Hospital for the excellent care and joking that went on with Jim.
