Kennedy, Carmitta Joy – Age 92, of Upper Stewiacke, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2021 with family at her side.
Born to the late Raymond and Isabel Deyarmond, she was the eldest and last surviving member of her immediate family.
In her early years she was a teacher in various communities. In 1948 she married David and became a farmer’s wife and shortly after started their family of seven. She enjoyed knitting, including making over 100 baby hats for the maternity ward of CEHHC and as many pairs of mittens for the grandchildren and the students of Upper Stewiacke Elementary School. Making quilts for the family was a lifetime project.
Carmitta is survived by her children, Don (Kathleen), Larry (Lynne), Arlen (Nancy), Ardith (Grant), Janet (Gary), Maxine (Frank); grandchildren, Shelley (Dana), Sandra (Tim), Jill, Mark (Laura), Peter (Katie), Bobby, Kelly (Marc), Amie, Ryan, Angela (Brian), Amy (Matthew), Kevin (Carla), Lesley (Brian), Cory (Taylor); great-grandchildren, Rebecca (Alex), Katelyn (JT), Christine, Luke (Chloe), Abby, Maely, Abe, Lou, Sophie, Renee, Riley, Linden, Parker, Cameron, Ewan, Leah, Emily; step-grandchildren, Josh, Sam (Laura), Eric (Amanda), Amy (Matthew); and many step great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Faye Deyarmond.
Carmitta was predeceased by husband David; son, Stephen; sister, Elizabeth “Betty” (Aubrey); brothers, Bill, Dick (Myrna).
Funeral service and burial will be held at a later date
Memorial donations may be made to Stewiacke Valley Museum.
Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
