MacKay, Robert “Bob” – Age 86 passed away January 10, 2021 peacefully in the Birches Nursing home, Musquodoboit Harbour.
Born in New Canada, he was a son of the late Robert and Mildred (Wagner) MacKay. He began his life on the farm in Falkland Ridge and moved East Jeddore with the love of his life, Doreen until her passing in 2010. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather.
He is survived by brother, Wendell (Linda) Mackay, Saint John, New Brunswick; daughter, Pamela (Kevin) Mackenzie, Porters Lake; daughter-in-law, Nancy, East Jeddore; grandchildren, Liz, Del (Derek), Robbie, Amanda (Donnie), great-grandchildren, Brittney (James), Megan, Emily, Dawn, Maverick; great-great-grandchildren, Candace, Caleb; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Russell; wife, Doreen; and son, Robert.
He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, having a good meal and working with his hands. His joy in life was his family and watching the children grow. He made his trips around the community to all the wharves to always see how the fisherman made out for the day. He was generous with his time and would do anything to help his family and those in the community. He was completely dedicated to his 42 years of sobriety and our family would like to thank all members for their many years of support.
He will be lovingly remembered for his wicked wit, his generosity and his quiet disposition. Until the very end he could beat the pants off of anyone in a game of crib but would always make you feel like you had a chance. He was always a 60 for 120 bid in a game of auction.
We would like to send an expression of thanks to the nurses and staff of The Birches Nursing Home.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Donations may be made in his name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
