Wilhelmina Paula (Fransen) Polstra

Polstra (Fransen), Wilhelmina Paula – Age 78, passed away peacefully in Northwood Centre, Halifax on July 18th, 2019. Born in Garut, Indonesia, Wilhelmina was the daughter of the late Berend-Jan and Hertha Fransen.

She was predeceased by her husband, Hans Polstra; and brother, Gerrit-Jan Fransen (Winterswyk, Holland).

Wilhelmina came to Canada on October 19th, 1963, where she joined her husband who had already been to Canada as a young farm hand. She was a nurse for many years and truly enjoyed her profession. Wilhelmina was an avid gardener, who loved nothing more than digging in the dirt and watching her beautiful gardens grow. She was a talented and accomplished seamstress who sewed beautiful clothing for herself, family, and even created costumes for many years for local dancers and dance schools. She loved to entertain friends and family with meals and gatherings for every occasion. Her motto and advice in life was, “Don’t sweat the small stuff” and “Accept the things you cannot change and have the courage to change the things you can, and have the wisdom to learn the difference.”

She is survived by her son, Bob (Sherri); daughter, Julie Polstra (Dave); Tjiske Polstra (Myles); grandsons, Kees Polstra, Ben Polstra, Ethan Caldwell, Owen Caldwell; brother, Ben Fransen (Margarethe) of Munich, Germany; sister-in-law, Wilma Fransen of Winterswyk, Holland; several cousins, nieces and nephews abroad.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Enfield Legion on Thursday, July 25th from 6-8 p.m. Family invites friends to come together and remember the good times they had with Wilhelmina. No flowers by request. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the staff of Centre 3 at Northwood for their care and compassion during Wilhelmina’s final days.
