Perry (Sutherland), Julia Leota – Age 94 of Truro, passed away peacefully with family members by her side on May 22, 2019 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Economy, she was a daughter of the late Jon and Flossie (Mills) Sutherland.
Leota was a member of St. David’s United Church in Bible Hill, UCW and choir member, and had been a member of the Cobequid Twirlers Square Dance Club, N.S. Bluenose RV Squares and Red Hatters. She worked as a nurse’s aid in the Truro Hospital, in the Truro Daily News office, and as an administrative receptionist for Dr. Crowe until she retired. She then volunteered at the hospital information desk, and joined a bowling league.
She was the beloved wife of the late Malcolm Perry; mother of daughters, Beatrice Schaffer, Dianne (Keith) MacKenzie, Joanne (Robert) Johnson; son, Wayne (Cathy). She is also survived by six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Florence Sutherland, Dorothy Pettigrew, Elizabeth Sutherland, Evelyn Creelman; brothers, Hedley, Darrell, Ralph. She was predeceased by a son in infancy; sisters, Agnes Sutherland, Mabel MacLellan, Madeline Bennett; brothers, Ervin and Ronald in infancy, Addison, Victor and Elson.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be on Monday from 6-8 p.m., and memorial service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m., both in St. David’s United Church, Pictou Rd., Bible Hill, with Rev. Donna Lawrence officiating. Reception to follow in Bible Hill Village Hall. Interment will be in Bible Hill Cemetery. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to Colchester East Hants VON, Colchester East Hants Health Foundation – Palliative Care, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
