McDonell (MacDonald), Monica Lillian – Age 78 of Enfield, passed away peacefully with her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer.
She is survived by her loving husband, Leo; her six children, John (Lesley), Fredericton; Marnie Desbas (Stanley), New Jersey; Peggy, Dartmouth; Gail Taylor (Chris), Bedford; Becky Chisholm (Ken), Sackville; Sara Hutt (John), Bedford; her beloved grandchildren, Angus, Alex, Ella, Emmelia, Charlie, Mac, Lillian, and Grace; sisters, Lorraine MacDonald and Dorothy Scott. She was predeceased by her parents, Laurence and Emmeline MacDonald; siblings, Sterling, Patricia, Joan, John, Lewis and Gloria.
Monica was born and raised in Halifax and loved the city. Married for 52 years, she was a devoted wife to Leo and a loving mother and grandmother. She made weekends special, with trips to the camp, walks in the woods, Sunday drives, visits to the library and camping with her family. She loved music and enjoyed singing and playing with her family. She loved her backyard, taking care of the birds and her rose bushes, reading, and a hot cup of tea. She was unwavering in her Catholic faith.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, December 19, with a funeral mass at 11 a.m., Friday, December 20, both in St. Bernard’s Church, Enfield, Father Michael Walsh officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Bernard’s CWL, or a library of your choice.
