Jean Beatrice Crout

Crout, Jean Beatrice – 1926-2018 of Porters Lake, passed away September 25th, 2018, in Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Nellie Anderson.

Her early working career was at Evans Hardware in Halifax, and R.P. Carey Hardware in Westphal. She was one of the first in Nova Scotia to complete her early childhood education, and later owned  and operated Lake Echo Day Care and Pre-school for more than 20 years. She worked hard to raise her children. She enjoyed watching wrestling, the Blue Jays, roller derby, playing bingo, and cards. Her life was very involved in St. Augustine’s Church, in Lake Echo.

Surviving are daughters, Sandra Baker (Glen), Porters Lake, Joanne (Dwight) Mattern, Victoria, son, John (Joyce), of Porters Lake; daughter-in-law, Heather, Oyster Pond; sister, Marie Percy, Vancouver; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, six great great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Joseph “Jack”; son, Ronald; great-grandson, Levi; sisters, Eileen Blackwell, Beatrice Morison, Helen Anderson, son-in-law, James Baker. Cremation has taken place.

A memorial Service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, Lake Echo, with Rev Fred Grainger officiating. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to St. Augustine’s Church or Make-a-Wish Atlantic Provinces.

Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
