William Lawrence “Billy” vanTassell

vanTassell, William Lawrence “Billy” – Age 46 of Brookfield, passed away July 10, 2018, following a courageous battle with ALS. Born in Truro, he was a son of Greg (Nancy) vanTassell, Brookfield and Phyllis (Del) Bard, Alberta.

Billy was raised by loving grandparents, the late Lawrence and Kitty vanTassell, along with their daughters, Susan and Helen. Billy also called Don and Sharon Keizer’s place home and considered them and their daughters, Ellen and Anita, as family.

Billy had a love for the woods and nature, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing washer toss. He had a deep love for his dog, Max. He was very easy-going, fun-loving, strong-willed, brave and courageous.

Surviving are his best friend and love of his life, Joan Hatton; son, William Wallace, Brookfield; siblings, Chipper (Lori) vanTassell, Stewiacke; Brookes (Ann) vanTassell, Jenna (Mike) Searle, both of Brookfield; Steven (Mel) Bard, Yellowknife; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by cousin, Andre Belanger.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Friday, July 13, from 7-9 p.m., and funeral service will be Saturday at 2 p.m., both in Knox United Church, Brookfield, with Rev. Larry Harrison officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Family committal will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Stewiacke East. Family flowers only. Memorial donations to ALS Society of Nova Scotia or SPCA would be appreciated.
