Carroll (Andrews), Elsie Aleta – Age 91 of Stewiacke, died peacefully on April 18, 2018, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, surrounded by family. She was a cherished aunt, sister, friend, and the most amazing mother ever.
Elsie was an amazing, strong woman who overcame incredible challenges throughout her life – like raising four strong-willed children on her own – while always lending a helping hand and an open heart to others in times of need. Widowed early in life, she was fiercely independent and lived by a set of very simple yet unshakable spiritual beliefs that allowed her to always find the wonder and beauty in this world.
Elsie loved her community, where she engaged as a volunteer and a town councillor, as well as working tirelessly on the tourism committee. She was a church Elder with her beloved St. Andrew’s United Church, where she sang in the choir – she was the one swaying joyfully to the music and not reading her sheet music while she sang. Music infused her life and she sang right up to her last hours. Elsie held a reverent love and deep respect for all of nature, and was happiest walking in the woods, gardening, watching and listening to the birds, or strolling along the beach. She loved to grow flowers and had a magic touch for growing them. Elsie was always grateful for what she had and never complained, and we are so glad that she is now reunited with the love of her life and her cherished family members who went before her. There must be one heck of a Hootenanny going on with them all.
In keeping with Elsie’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. A Celebration of Life will be held this summer. Family invites all who wish to join them for a toast to Elsie’s life and ongoing journey at the Stewiacke Legion on Saturday, April 21st after 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you simply spend time with family and loved ones, take a quiet walk in the woods or along the beach, and take time to be awestruck by the beauty in nature.
Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
