MacKenzie (Digdon), Mabel Cora – Age 95, of East Stewiacke, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2017, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, with her family by her side. Born in Half Island Cove, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Edmund and Dorothy Isalona (Hendsbee) Digdon (Half Island Cove).
Mabel taught school for many years, retiring from East Stewiacke Elementary School in 1986. She was a member of Stewiacke United Baptist Church.
Surviving are her daughters, Gloria Callaghan, East Stewiacke; Ruth Campbell, Brookfield; Doreen (John) Bartlett, Enfield; sister, Dorothy James, Halifax; grandchildren, James, Scott, Darcy, Lori, Darren, Marsha; 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Laurie Alexander MacKenzie; son-in-law, Fred Callaghan; brothers, Melvin, Everette, Harold, Chester; sisters, Lola, Minnie, Hazel and Helen.
A graveside service will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Stewiacke United Baptist Church, The Kidney Foundation of Canada, or Colchester East Hants Health Foundation – Palliative Care.
The family deeply appreciates all of the compassion and support given to them by the staff of Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Special thanks to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit in Colchester East Hants Health Centre for their kindness and care of our mother.
