Raymond Thomas Young

Young, Raymond Thomas – Age 85, Musquodoboit Harbour, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2017, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in West Petpeswick, Raymond was the son of the late Hazel (Gordon) (of Jeddore) and Fulton Young (of West Petpeswick).

Raymond enjoyed camping, watching the Toronto Blue Jays and you could always find him at the ball field in the summer. He was an avid bowler and for many years, coached the men’s baseball team. Raymond had various jobs throughout his life; he drove an oil truck, milk truck, helped carry materials for the building of the Canso Causeway, and at the Halifax Shipyards, but will be remembered by most for driving the school bus and working at Ginger’s Trucking.

Raymond is survived by his stepchildren, Mark (Helen) Elliott of Calgary, Alta.; Kim Cooper (Henderson) of Oyster Pond; Chris Elliott of Sackville; Monique (Robert) Smith of Dartmouth; as well as many grandchildren and many cousins. Raymond was predeceased by his wife, Bernice; his sister, Marian Victoria and stepson, Dana Elliott.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit. A celebration of his life will be held in Petpeswick Yacht Club on Saturday, March 25 from 2-4 p.m. The family wishes to thank the EHS paramedics, Mark and Justin, the VON staff who brightened his day and a tremendous thank you to the staff of Dartmouth General Hospital, especially the 3rd floor nursing staff and the palliative care team.
