Killen (White), Joan Helen – Of Elderbank. On October 23, 2017, the matriarch of our family passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, in Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital. At 81 years, and after 50-plus years of suffering with arthritis, infection, and most recently with cancer, her suffering ended. She touched the hearts of every person she ever met.
She will be greatly missed by husband, Allison; sons, Newton (Michelle), Sackville; Burton (Heather), Stewiacke; Robert (Beverley), Mississauga, Ont.; daughters, Reta (Dave) Kerr, Elderbank; Christine Irving (Joe McKenna), Timberlea; chosen son, Alex, Dartmouth; brother, Alden R. White, Saskatchewan; sister, Gloria Ann Bayer, Windsor; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; special lap dog, Lilly. Joan was predeceased by her mother, Agnes May (Lee) (White) Streatch; her stepfather, Burton Streatch; her father, Alden White, Sr.; granddaughter, Rebecca Killen.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and funeral service will be Friday at 2 p.m., both in St. Andrew’s United Church, Elderbank, Rev. Dr. Linda Yates officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elderbank Cemetery Commission, c/o 37 Bert Fox Road, Elderbank, NS B0N 1K0.
