James B. “Jim” McLean

McLean, James B. “Jim” – Age 82, of Truro and formerly of Dean, passed away August 12, 2016, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, with family by his side. Born in Dean, he was a son of the late Edward “Ned” and Leona (Pratt) McLean.

Jim had a varied career as a woodsman, mill operator at Mosher Limestone, then retiring from Department of Transportation. He also sold firewood, maple syrup, Christmas trees and blueberries. Jim enjoyed his many years of service with Upper Musquodoboit Volunteer Fire Department where he was Santa for the little ones. Anyone who knew him knew of his love of fiddle music, hunting, fishing, bingo and a stiff drink of black rum.

Surviving are sister, Ollie (Edmund Robichaud); sister-in-law, Loretta Suttis; brother-in-law, Gordon Estabrooks; children, Harold (Colleen), Carol, Russell, Walter, Randy (Susan), Roy, Anaita (Ken Goodie), Doug (Tracey); sons-in-law, John Frame and Terry Rogers; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, the former Vera Hayden; daughter, Phyllis; siblings, Marvin, Sharon (Jack Monck), Erma; granddaughter, Tracey; great-grandson, Maverick.

Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Sharon Presbyterian Church, Dean, with Rev. Michael Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Dean Cemetery, followed by a reception in the church hall. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of E-Wing 3rd Floor and Palliative Care Team of Colchester East Hants Health Centre for their exceptional care during his stay.
