Ruth Estelle Graham

Graham, Ruth Estelle – Age 87, of Truro and formerly of Upper Stewiacke, passed away on October 13, 2021.

Ruth was a daughter of the late William and Gladys (Sutherland) MacDonald. She was born in Earltown and went on to be a school teacher and principal in the Stewiacke and Musquodoboit Valleys from 1952-1975. Ruth became a skilled quilt maker, a craft she continued for friends and family for the rest of her life. She was a founding member of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative and was active in the Nova Scotia Dahlia Society and local garden clubs. Ruth and her husband, George grew extensive flower gardens, especially of dahlias. One of Ruth’s great joys was serving in her church. She was an elder in Sharon Presbyterian Church, Dean and enjoyed going to Synod and Presbytery meetings. After moving to Truro in 2008, she became a member of St. James Presbyterian Church. For the last two years Ruth enjoyed living in Wallace Retirement Residence at Munroe Court in Truro. The spirit of the community at this facility brought vitality and fulfillment to Ruth’s life.  

Surviving are her daughter, Kathryn Graham, Alberta; grandchildren, Alden Epp (Luke Chapman), Australia; Elewyn Epp (Jon Furkalo), great-granddaughter, Vala, all of British Columbia; sisters, Shirley MacDonald, Cape Breton; Edna Matheson, Bedford.  

Ruth was predeceased by her husband, George; sister, Donna.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 21st at 1 p.m. in St. James Presbyterian Church, Truro with Rev. Andrew Campbell officiating. In keeping with COVID 19 restrictions, masking and proof of double vaccination with photo ID will be required. Burial will be at a later date in Eastville Cemetery.

Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
