George Carl Ross

Ross, George Carl – The death of George Carl Ross occurred in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro on November 20, 2024 in the Palliative Care Ward.

Carl was born in 1932 in New Glasgow, the eldest of a family of twelve to his parents, the late George Neil Ross and Mary Hazel (Arthur).

He spent his early years in Pleasant Valley, Pictou County where he attended school and made many lifelong friends. The family then relocated to Alma in 1950.

His work life began in local sawmills and he was employed by CNR as a fireman on the steam locomotives. He was a driver for the former Acadia Bus Line. The remainder of work life before retiring was in long haul transport for various companies, lastly with Eastern Transport.

He was a long-time member of St. David’s United Church in Bible Hill where he served as an elder. He was a retired member of Bible Hill Fire Brigade. He and his wife, Caroline were avid bowlers.

Carl is survived by his sisters, Dorothy (Eustace), Reeves, PEI; Diane (James) Ross, Iron Rock; Marilyn Renshaw, Saint John, NB; Shirley MacConnell, Scotsburn: Elaine (Bruce) Lewis, Ottawa; Beverly (Fred) Cameron, Chance Harbour; and brothers, James (Irene), Toronto; Burt (Grace), Alma; Donald, Anderson’s Mountain; William, Alma; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Caroline (Sutherland); brother, Fraser (Paulette); infant brother, Clarence Norman and a sister in infancy.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative.

A graveside committal service will be held in Bible Hill Cemetery on November 30 at 11:30 a.m.

Carl’s family are deeply appreciative of the following: Mike and Bonnie MacSwain – his guardian angels, Marty and Audrey MacLean, all of the many VON nurses, his friends, Paul Harris, Zelda and Wayne Gosbee and their family for being there for him in his final days. To Dr. Amanda Webster and her staff at Village Physicians Medical Practice our deepest gratitude for the care and concern shown for our brother. To all departments of the hospital and staff who work in them, we are so very thankful and to the staff of Fraser’s Guardian Drug Store and to Mary Pettipas, Palliative Care Nurse. To Leah Sutherland, Blair and girls, thank you for making Carl a part of your family.
