Karen Lorraine Grace

Grace, Karen Lorraine – We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, Karen Lorraine Grace of Truro on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at age 78, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Originally from Elderbank, Karen was the 14th of 15 siblings born to the late Samuel and Mary Elizabeth (Whalen) Bezanson.

Mom was predeceased by her husband, William Gordon Grace; son, Gregory Gordon Grace; siblings, William, Ervine, John, Douglas, Lorne, Eileen, Alma, Francis, Rosamond, Vera, Shirley, Harold and Freda.

She is survived by her sister, Joan McNutt; sons, Dale Grace (Donna), Billy Grace; daughter, Tami Grace-Cripps (Matthew); grandchildren, Matty, Kayle, Riley, Dale Robert, Daniel, Holly, Gabrielle, Mikayla, Malachi and Micah.

Mom was a true believer in her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ and has gone home to be with Him. She was a beautiful woman, so loved by family and friends. Anyone who knew her will always have a piece of her in their heart. Mom loved going to classic car shows and watching the Blue Jays games with friends and family. She loved spending time with her sister, Joan. Mom and Joan shared a fond memory of themselves as children sitting on milk cans on the back of their truck driving to Halifax where they would sing and have their music recorded on actual records (LPs). She loved being with all her friends and family and sharing quality time with them. Grammy’s grandchildren loved her so very much.

We would like to thank all of Mom’s friends and family who visited her over the past month. It truly meant a lot to our mom and all of us.

There is no visitation as per Karen’s wishes.

A graveside ceremony will take place at St. Andrew’s United Church Cemetery, Elderbank on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Steve McEvoy officiating. Refreshments will follow downstairs in St. Andrew’s Church, 36 Elderbank Back Road, Elderbank.

Memorials in her name may be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia.

Janet Elizabeth Seeton

Seeton, Janet Elizabeth – It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Janet Seeton, on October 17, 2022 at age 79.

Born in Stewiacke, Janet was a daughter of the late Harry and Elsie Andrews.

Janet is survived be her spouse, Jim Seeton; daughter, Kelly Seeton; brothers, Alan Andrews and Stanley Andrews. She was a well-loved aunt to many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by sisters, Madeline, Elaine, Emma Lou; brothers, Harry Andrews, Donnie Andrews, Richard Andrews and Kenneth Andrews.

Janet lived in many places due to military postings which allowed travel and camping with friends to be some of her best memories.

Visits from her sister Elaine on a regular basis in Stewiacke always began with picking Elaine up at the airport. Elaine would immediately take her suitcase up to her room and then come back downstairs to announce “I’M IN”! That would be followed by Mom’s eyeroll and three weeks of sisters trying to out-talk one another. Now it is your turn, Mom. When you meet up with Elaine again, you can announce “I’M IN”!

Esther Ada St. Clare (Fleming) Higgins

Higgins (Fleming), Esther Ada St. Clare – Age 89, passed away October 17, 2022 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro with loved ones by her side.

Esther was a daughter of the late William and Stella (Henley) Fleming.

Esther was a caring lady, always putting the needs of others ahead of her own. She raised eight children and cared for many others. She loved them all as if they were her own.

Esther will be deeply missed by her daughters, Elizabeth Logan (Brooke), Maxine Dean (Wayne), Cindy Higgins; sons, Russell (Mary), Raymond, Robert, Scott (Tami) and Mark; grandchildren, Nancy Logan (Bryden), Tamara Veinot (Lindsay), Whitney Higgins (Kelly), Joseph Higgins (Shelley), Peter Higgins (Lisa), John Hamilton (Amber), David Hamilton (Sandra), Melissa Benvie (Matthew), Wendy Dean and Patricia Dean; 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren; and sister, Sylvia (Fred) Carmichael.

Besides her parents, Esther is predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Russell; sisters, Katherine Currie, Rosalie Higgins; brothers, William and Ervin; sons-in-law, Orrie Logan and Wayne Graham; grandson, Corporal Thomas Hamilton; nephew, Carmen Carmichael; and niece, Katrina Fleming.

A private graveside committal will be held.

A Celebration of Life will be held October 23 from 2 – 4 p.m. in Upper Musquodoboit Fellowship Hall, 8397 Highway 224.

Snacks would be greatly appreciated.

Wambalt, Donna Marie – age 75, passed away October 7, 2022 in Dartmouth General Hospital with her daughters by her side.

Born in Middle Musquodoboit, she was a daughter of the late Sylvan and Gladys (White) Fraser.

Donna is survived by her daughters, Leeann (Wayne) Chapman, Andrea (Bill) Busby, Crystal (Nason) Dacey; grandchildren, Wayne (Alyssa) Chapman, Adam Chapman, Paula-May Busby, M.J. Busby, Kelsie-Ann Busby, Keira Dacey (Mitchell Haines), Connor Dacey, Keegan Dacey, Kiana Dacey; great-grandchildren, Kingston Chapman, Peach Chapman, Dawson Haines, Claire Haines, Logan Haines; sisters, Laura Romkey (Cor); Teresa “Terry” (Randy) Rossiter; Cindy Beeler; brothers, Glenn (Kim) Fraser, Robert Taylor (Tamie).

Donna was predeceased by her loving husband, Ken; sisters, Peggy O’Shaughnessy and Patricia Mae in infancy; brothers-in-law, James Romkey and John O’Shaughnessy; great-grandson, Shawn Wambalt.

Annie "Ruth" (Redden) Fraser

Fraser (Redden), Annie “Ruth” – passed away peacefully Thursday, October 6, 2022, in Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital, Middle Musquodoboit. Born in Lindsay Lake, she was a daughter of the late Henry Miller Redden and Frances Annie Higgins. 

Over the years, Ruth and Ronald fostered many children while raising five of their own. She was an Avon representative in the Musquodoboit Valley for many years. She also enjoyed her many trips to Bangor, Maine for bingo and shopping. Ruth loved to play bingo, go to yard sales and flea markets, and collect Royal Albert china and other unique items. She was an avid knitter and seamstress, making afghans, countless pillows and baby quilts for many people. She made the best biscuits and homemade beans.

She is survived by her children, Gerry, Middle Musquodoboit; Kathy, Higginsville; Bonnie McMullen (Danny), Missouri;  Paul, Higginsville; and foster children, Marjorie Lloyd, Halifax and Bill McDonald, Ottawa;  grandchildren,  Trish Blackburn (Mike) and their children, Mitchell and Sarah;  Dawn Whidden (Jim) and children, Nathan, Laura, and Samantha; Tony Fraser (Wanda Stone) and their son, Henry; Michelle Sibley (Paul) and their children, Abigail and Malcolm; great-grandson Douglas Fraser, great-great granddaughter, Charlotte; and daughter-in-law, Linda.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald Eugene Fraser; sons, Ronald Edwin Fraser, Stephen Michael (infancy); grandsons, Gary Boake and Shawn Fraser. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been predeceased by her brothers, Winfred Redden (Edith), Nathan Redden (Marion), Russell Redden, Clifford Redden (Margaret); sisters, Roxie Arnold (Albert), Violet Redden, Mary Elliott (Charlie), Ida MacPhee (Willard), Clara Cruikshank (Harold), Ethel Scott (Eark), Hazel Garbutt (Ross), Edna Johnson (John), Beatrice Lindsay (Alexander), Daisy Johnson (Percy) and Edythe Conrad (Cecil). 

Ruth will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Special thanks to the compassionate nursing staff and doctors at the Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital. A graveside service will be Wednesday, October 12, 2022 2 p.m. in Higginsville Cemetery with a reception to follow.

Eileen Margaret Maguire

Maguire, Eileen Margaret – Age 80 of Stewiacke, passed away suddenly at home on September 30, 2022.

Born in Woking, England, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Doreen (McLean) Isenor.

Eileen enjoyed working in her flower garden, reading, doing jigsaw puzzles and tending to her dogs. She was an active volunteer in the community and always enjoyed doing and being on the go. She was a huge Toronto Blue Jays fan.

Surviving are her children, Curtis, Doreen (Stephen), Clyde (Rhonda), Ken, Rick; grandchildren, Kaitlin, Christine, Tyler; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Ryker, Bowdyn, Sophia; sister, Muriel; brother, Mike; Cathy, who was like a daughter to her; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Clyde; brother, David; and sister, Ruth.

Cremation has taken place.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, October 6 from 2 – 4 p.m. in Stewiacke Royal Canadian Legion Hall.

A private family interment will be held in Brookside Cemetery, Mill Village.

Natasha Donne (MacEachen) Forbes

Forbes (MacEachen), Natasha Donne – It is with broken hearts that the family of Natasha Donne (MacEachen) Forbes of Middle Musquodoboit, formally of Long Point, announce her passing on September 28, 2022 after a short but valiant fight with cancer. 

She was a loving mother to her three greatest gifts, Connor, Cowen and Rebecca (all at home) and devoted wife to Jeff. Natasha was the eldest daughter of Donald and Judy (Burke) MacEachen formally of Port Hood; sister to Juleen Pottie (Darryl) of Port Hawkesbury; and beloved aunt to Archer and Vivian.  Natasha is survived by aunts, Josephine Higgins, Marian MacDonald, Phyllis MacDonald, Jeannette MacNeil, Diana Drake and Angela (Jake) McBurney; her extended Forbes Family; and numerous cousins.

Natasha was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Mary and Jim Burke, Port Hood; paternal grandparents, Ida and Dan Joe MacEachen, Port Hood; mother and father-in-law, Lorraine and Ken Forbes, Enfield; aunts Donna Grandmaison, Maureen MacEachen, Lorna MacEachen, Joan Lee, Margret Murphy, Florence MacDonald; and uncles Francis Whitfield (Buddy) Burke, James Burke, Cyril MacNeil, Ranold MacDonald, Ronald MacDonald and Ron Higgins, Jeff Drake and Ken Grandmaison.

Natasha graduated with honors from St. FX in Antigonish with BBA in Management.  Natasha worked as the Marketing Director for many years at Cox and Palmer in Halifax, she also volunteered as a 4H leader in Middle Musquodoboit and participated in many organizations in which her children were involved. Natasha was an avid reader and enjoyed her book club meetings.

Visitation will be held Wednesday 10 – 10:45 a.m. in St. Bernard’s Catholic Church followed by mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Stewiacke East.

Dennis Burke Taylor

Taylor, Dennis Burke – It is with sad hearts that the family announces the sudden passing of Dennis Burke Taylor on September 26, 2022 at home.

He was a son of the late Clifford Joseph and Elvie Russell Taylor.

Dennis spent his 73 years living in Upper Musquodoboit. Over his lifetime, he was a dedicated caretaker for St. James United Church. He worked at Wittenburg Greenhouses in his early years and was later employed by Canada Post as a mail drivers assistant.

He loved his cats and had a passion for flowers and gardening. He sure had a green thumb which was evident whenever you visited his house.

Our family would like to extend special thanks to his dear friend, Robert Leslie for all his support to Dennis over the years.

Dennis is survived by his brother, Robert; cousin, Laverne; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by siblings, Stewart (Kay), Frances (Glen), Keith (Joan), Thelma (Victor), Malcolm (Jackie), Mildred; and sister-in-law, Vivian.

Cremation has taken place.

Rodney Hugh Queripel

Queripel, Rodney Hugh – Age 69, of Shubenacadie passed away September 26, 2022 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Born in Truro, he was the youngest son of the late Sidney and Marjorie (Logan) Queripel.

Rodney enjoyed gardening and spending time with his granddaughter, Charley.

Surviving are his son, Gregory (Laurie); granddaughters, Taylor, Charley; brother, Malcolm (Christene); several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers, William, Sidney Jr. in infancy; and sister, Sylvia Queripel Nelson.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 4 at 2 p.m. in Faith Community Church with Pastor Paul Van der Kooy officiating.

Francene Wandy (Weir) Graham

Graham (Weir), Francene Wandy – The family of Francene Wandy (Weir) Graham, age 67 of Eastville, is sad to announce that she passed away on September 22, 2022 after a few years of battling cancer, with her family by her side in the Palliative Care Unit, Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Born in Truro, she was the youngest daughter of the late Lawrence Laughlin Weir and Margaret Mae (Weir) Marshall.

Surviving is her husband of 49 years, Lewis; children, Andrew (Krystal Johnson), Pembroke; Evan (Jessie) Graham, Brookfield; grandchildren, Tristan Burton, Nicholas Barclay, Carter Graham and Cassius Graham; loving sister, Holly (Ray) Smeltzer, Valley; brothers-in-law, Kenneth MacKenzie, Valley; Ivan (Deborah) Graham, Sussex, NB; mother-in-law, Rhoda Graham, Eastville; special foster parents, Ross Graves and Eliza Schurman.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sister, Millie; step-mother, Joan (Davis) Weir; step-father, Gardner Marshall; and father-in-law, Scott Graham.

Thanks go out to the nurses at the Dickson Centre, Halifax for their time and care provided to their patients. Also, to the Palliative Care Unit in CEHHC where she spent her last days with compassion and care. Special mention to Dawn Ross, Dr. Smith and the VON who helped her through the whole process.

I know she would like to mention all her friends that made their way to visit with her when she could not get around easily on her own. She sure enjoyed these days along with the food and laughter she got out of it. Last and not least, all the help received making the lobster chairs and table. Everything she used was donated by friends to make this happen. This was one of her highlights that she treasured. Thanks to the men at the camp and others who put this project together.

A graveside service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Eastville Cemetery with Marty Clark Ettinger officiating.

Amelia Jane Villegas

Villegas, Amelia Jane – Amelia Jane Villegas, our darling girl, gained her angel wings on September 15, 2022, surrounded by her loving family at home. She was 4 years old.

Amelia battled a brain tumor for more than half her life, but was not defined by illness. In fact, she lived an active life full of laughter and music, and danced her way into the hearts of all who were blessed to meet her. She was a lover as well as a fighter; she believed in girl power and sang about it often. She showed her fearlessness and strength loud and proud, leaving sparks in her wake as everyone else merely tried to keep up with her. Maybe most importantly, she taught those around her to always choose happiness, choose love. 

Amelia is survived by her parents, Jillian and Jose; her beloved older brother, Mateo; and grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins who felt the glow of her life from every corner of the world. 

Funeral services will take place in St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Enfield on Wednesday, September 21 at 11 am. Flowers and donations are gratefully accepted in Amelia's honor.

Donald "John" Wayne Harnish

Harnish, Donald “John” Wayne – Age 55 of Admiral Rock passed away September 14, 2022 in the Palliative Care unit of Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Born in Halifax, he was a son of Lois (Murphy) Harnish, Admiral Rock and the late Donald Harnish.

John enjoyed hobby fishing for bass in Walton and in the spring he commercial fished on the Shubenacadie River. He enjoyed his time outdoors hunting, trout fishing and camping.

He is survived by son, Devin, Admiral Rock; sister, Diane (Wesley) Mailman, Salmon River; nephews, Steven (Liz), Shane; nieces, Janie, Kennedy, Kylie.

He was predeceased by sister, Mary.

Harold Malcolm Dort

Dort, Harold Malcolm – With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Harold Malcolm Dort, age 85 on September 14, 2022 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro surrounded by his loving family.

Harold was born in Torbay, Guysborough County and lived most of his life in Wyses Corner with his loving wife of 61 years. He was a son of the late Daisy (Cole) Snyder and step-father, William Snyder, and raised by his grandparents, Henry and Violet Gammon, New Harbour.

Harold worked at National Gypsum for ten years at which time he went into dairy farming from which he retired after 20 years due to health issues. He most recently became famous for his pickles and jams which he and his wife prepared with love for all to enjoy.

Harold was a true family man and worshipped his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved fishing and hunting with them and taught them everything he knew and passed on his passion for it to most of his family. He shot his last deer with his grandson, Peter.

Harold will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Nina (Moore) Dort; daughter, Violet Brown (Larry), Antrim; son, Harold Jr. (Charlene), Antrim; grandchildren, Dawn Isenor (Craig), Marie Brown (Ryan Dearman), Vernon Brown (Stephanie), Brian Dort (Sam), Sara Leighton (Jimmy), Quinton, Keira Dort; great-grandchildren, Peter Kays, Peyton Dearman, Reese and Rowan Isenor, Landon and Leland Dort, Ethan and Cooper Leighton; step great-grandchildren, Robyn, Beca, Andrew, Abby, Marcus, Aden, Marley and Kita; sister, Ida Zinc (Ken); brothers, Eddy (Sandra), Anthony (Sue), Simmon Snyder; brothers-in-law, Henry Moore (June), Edgar Moore (Linda); sisters-in-law, Margaret Pelrine, Reta Pickles, Clara Campbell; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Special thanks to the staff at the hospital staff for their efforts and kindness shown to Harold and the family. Special thanks to nurse Bonnie for her compassion shown to us during our sadness.

Sharon Marie Martin

Martin, Sharon Marie – Age 71, of Sheet Harbour passed away peacefully on September 11, 2022 in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.

Born in Hatchet Lake, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Moulton) Evans.

Sharon loved to knit and everything had to be done perfectly shown by her sales far and wide.

She will always be loved and missed by her husband of 30 years, Harry; stepson, Blaine; five siblings; numerous nieces and nephews.

Ronald Delbert Killen

Killen, Ronald Delbert – With heavy hearts the family announces the sudden, peaceful passing of Ronald Killen on September 9, 2022 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle.

Ronnie was a son of the late Ira and Eileen (Jewers) Killen.

He was born, raised and lived in Murchyville all of his 83 years, raising his own family, working with various construction companies and later having his own company, leaving a legacy of his own construction skills. Ronnie was a hard-working man who enjoyed the simple things like providing for his family, giving a helping hand, family gatherings, fishing and walks in the woods. He found much enjoyment from watching his grandchildren grow into amazing adults and was so pleased to meet his first great-grandchild, Lucas.

Ronnie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Leila (Cole) Killen; son, Carl (Colleen); daughter, Cathy (Jeff); sons-in-law, Troy, Ricky; grandchildren, Chelsea, Ashleigh (Daniel), Nicole, Colton, Tyler, Brandon, Gabby; great-grandson, Lucas; brother, Wendell (Veronica); sisters-in-law, Luella, June; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Donna; brothers, Percy, Eddie, Bob, Lorne; sisters-in-law, Joanne and Eleanor.

Barb Stewart

Stewart, Barb – The Earth lost one spit fire of a woman September 8, 2022 at age 87 with the passing of Barb Stewart.

Born on the family farm on Parker Hill, Barb was always an active member of the community; from being part of the Women’s Institute, the local Women’s Auxiliary in Upper Musquodoboit and an original member of the Community Hall association. Barb spent her working years on the switch board in Upper, as a member of staff at the Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital and as your friendly neighborhood Avon Lady. Barb was always known for her willingness to help anyone and uncanny ability to tell it to you straight (even if you didn’t want to hear it). She filled her days doing crosswords, listening to old records and spending time with family and friends (as long as it didn’t interrupt her weekly bingo schedule).

Barb’s fighting spirit was apparent to anyone who knew her, despite being predeceased by her husband, Fred; children, Andy and Sarah; mother, Mary; father, Charles; sister, Betty; brothers, Tommy and Victor; and other members of her family clans, Barb approached each day with a smile and a get it done attitude.

Barb’s memory will live on in the hearts and stories of her daughter, Avis (Rick); grandchildren, Craig (Heather), Katie, Kelsey, Alex (Lyndsey); great-grandchildren, Gavin, Jayda, Sawyer; son-in-law, Peter; sisters, Joanne, Beulah (Leroy); and many sister and brothers-in-law; cousins, nieces and nephews in the Parker, Andrews and Stewart clans.

We will miss our Old Doll, her hugs, her cooking, her smiles and that look in her eyes she would give us when she thought we were being “shitheads”.

A special thanks to Dr. Day and Dr. Lorette and staff of Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital for their excellent care.

At Barb’s request there will be no service, with a private family burial at a later date.

Legg, Ambrose B. J.

Legg, Ambrose B. J. – Age 74, passed away August 28, 2022, due to complications from melanoma cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends.

Ambrose is predeceased by his father, Alex; mother, Ruth (Brooks); sister, Janet; and sister-in-law, Rose.

He is survived by wife, Maureen, Elmsvale; daughter, Claudia, Dartmouth; sons, Glenn-Arron (Alanna), Elmsvale and Tristan, Elmsvale; family friend, Lindsay, Labelle, QC; siblings, Richard, Dorset, UK; Bernard (Jackie), Inglisville; Naomi (Malcolm), Brook Village; nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

Ambrose was born and raised in Whitchurch Canonicorum, Dorset, England. He continued the family farming tradition, first working alongside his father and brothers at Berne Manor Farm and then with his wife and children at Little Dorset Farms.

As a boy he loved going down to Lyme Regis with his school friends to look for sailing ships on the horizon and prided himself on being able to see far off masts that the other boys could not.

Growing up in a musical family it was not surprising he started a band “The Undecided” with his brother and friend and was soon doing gigs at local pubs and events. This love of music continued throughout his life and was passed on to his children. There was nothing Ambrose liked more than pulling out one of his guitars and singing from the wide catalogue of songs he had learned or written over the years. From folk to blues, rock, and country, you never knew what new or old song would catch his ear and send him to the music room to learn it. He continued to play at local events and charities into his seventies. His favorite musicians included The Rolling Stones, The Seekers, The Hollies, The Good Lovelies, Gordon Lightfoot, Matt Andersen, among many others. It is no surprise that he looked to his own life for song writing inspiration. Among them, a song about meeting a girl while driving his American pillarless left-hand drive 1963 Dodge Polara. That car was his pride and joy in 1960’s England. Ambrose loved whipping down the twisty country lanes and as the girl attested the car “really shifted”. Was there any doubt Maureen would fall for this handsome farmer and musician who drove an American car and marry him in 1972.

An adventuring spirit, he decided to emigrate to Canada with his new family in 1974, to pursue his dream of owning his own farm. After working on two farms, he purchased his own in the Musquodoboit Valley, Nova Scotia. The farm under Ambrose’s and Maureen’s guidance went through many changes and innovations over the years branching out into beef, swine and poultry plus growing grains and forage. Ambrose believed that diversity and hard work were the key to a strong farm and healthy farmland. His contentment lay in knowing that the farming would continue with the future generations.

In his retirement he was able to revisit his youth when he traded in his usual farm truck for a fancy black Mustang. It was a second chance to drive his main girl, Maureen around and explore the province.

Sarah Jane Barnes

Barnes, Sarah Jane – Age 58, of Elmsdale and formerly of Upper Musquodoboit, passed away September 5, 2022 at home surrounded by her family.

Born in Middle Musquodoboit, she was a daughter of Barbara (Andrews) Stewart and the late Fred Stewart.

Sarah had many loves in her life. She loved children, dogs and helping with animal rescues, having fostered over 100 dogs and rescued three of her own. She had a lot of love to give for both humans and animals. If you were part of her life, she was a wonderful, thoughtful friend.

Sarah will always be loved and missed by her husband, Peter; daughter, Kelsey; son, Alexander (Lyndsey); mother, Barbara; sister, Avis (Rick); nephew, Craig; niece, Katie; and extended Barnes family members.

Besides her father, she was predeceased by brother, Andy.

Cremation has taken place.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Upper Musquodoboit Community Hall, 8344 Highway 224, on Wednesday, September 14, 2 – 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Breast Cancer Society of Canada or Hope for Wildlife would be appreciated.

Violetta Marie Blair

Blair, Violetta Marie – Age 75, passed away after a short battle with cancer on September 5, 2022 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Violetta was born in Westchester, a daughter of Mabel (Work) MacFadden.

Vi was loved by all who knew her. Even the nurses in her ward were touched by her smiles and cheerful ways. She enjoyed sewing and spending time with family, friends and her cat, Buddy.

In addition to her mom, she was predeceased by her life partner, Edward Letcher and granddaughter, Kayla Dawn Blair.

Surviving are her son, Randy Blair and his wife, Lisa, Calgary; daughters, Lolita Blair and her partner, Lee White, Truro; Juanita Whidden-Blair and her partner, Tony Archibald, Truro; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Jim MacFadden.

Vi did not want to have a funeral so please do not send flowers. If you wish, you may make a donation to Canadian Cancer Society in memory of her.

Mark George Moffatt

Moffatt, Mark George – Age 65 of Upper Onslow. Mark fought many demons in his life and won, and for the last four months put up a strong fight for his health, but passed away peacefully on September 4, 2022.

Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Richard and Marguerite (Goudey) Moffatt, originally from Yarmouth.

Mark did appliance repairs and worked on milking systems for many years. His true love job was as a herdsman on a few dairy farms. He worked for many years on the Van Den Hof farm in Milford, and thought the world of the family.

Surviving are his spouse, Diane (McNeil) Moffatt; stepdaughter, Melissa (Scott Burbridge), Porters Lake; son, Brandon Mancini (Kim Milberry), Truro; daughter, LauraAnne Mancini (Blake), Truro; grandkids, Gage, Seth and Danika; siblings, Steve (Jane), Stewiacke; Chris (Marianne), Alberta; Michelle (Brad), Florida. He will also be missed by his baby pet, Maggie; and special friend and morning phone buddy, Rodney Beck.

Special thanks to Dr. Hindler and his receptionist, Cathy; Palliative Care team Dr. Cortney Smith, Cheryl Graham RN and VON, LPNs and RNs.

Cremation has taken place.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 17, 2022 from 1-4 p.m. at the family home at 8 Sunrise Court, Upper Onslow.

Mark was a true Toronto Maple Leafs fan, and his last words on that subject would be “Take that B.”
