Thomas Steven “Little Tom” Orman

Orman, Thomas Steven “Little Tom” – Age 42, Head of Chezzetcook, passed away suddenly on May 11, 2017, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Halifax, he was a son of Tom (Starleen) Orman and Janet Beaver. He was adopted and raised by his grandparents, the late Thomas and Shirley Orman.

Many in the Chezzetcook area met Little Tom as he walked the road, collecting bottles and cans, stopping to talk to people along the way. He liked spending time at Tim Horton’s. Tom volunteered at the local food bank.

Surviving are his adopted family, Shirley (Cecil) Boutilier, Susan Orman, Darlene (Jim) Nickerson, Tom (Starleen), Winkie Orman; siblings, Michael, Nick, Shauna, Star, Cherese. He was predeceased by brother/uncle, Darrell.

Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, at 1 p.m. in St. Genevieve’s Catholic Church, East Chezzetcook, Father Fabian Ihunegbo officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Memorial donations may be made to a local food bank or SPCA.

Ira Leslie Milton Parsons

Parsons, Ira Leslie Milton – Age 77, of Head of Chezzetcook, passed away May 10, 2017, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Shoal Brook, Bonne Bay, N.L., he was a son of the late Simeon and Elizabeth (Mahar) Parsons.

Ira enjoyed being around people and had a wonderful sense of humour. He and his family spent many summers at Dollar Lake Park. Before moving from Newfoundland in 1993, Ira was a lay minister. He and his wife, Eva, enjoyed music and playing guitar.

Surviving are his wife, Eva; children, Wilma (Jim) Voakes, Glenn; grandchildren, Timothy, Stephanie; many extended family members. He was predeceased by sisters, Marion and Julia; brother, Henry.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m., and funeral service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m., both in First United Church, Musquodoboit Harbour, Rev. Joan Griffin officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Diabetes Canada or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.

John Arthur Charles Wright

Wright, John Arthur Charles – Age 61, of Lower Sackville, passed away on May 7, 2017, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, with his children by his side. Born in Halifax, he was a son of John and Rose, and was raised by his grandparents, the late Arthur and Mildred Morven.

John was self-employed, and ran his own television and small electronics repair business for more than 30 years. A special thank you to the customers of AllWright Television Services for their support over the years. John also worked for Munroe’s TV Sales and Service later in his career. A real outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and spend time at the campground.

John leaves behind son, Chris (Jenny); daughter, Michelle; sisters, Judy, Wendy, Roseanna and Linda; brothers, Terry and Laurie. He was predeceased by his wife, Debbie.

Cremation has taken place. In keeping with John’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. A family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation (Nova Scotia Chapter).

Marguerite Maud Newman

Newman, Marguerite Maud – Age 82 of Milford, passed away on May 6, 2017, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late Wilbert and Lena (Hines) Smiley.

Marguerite received a degree from Miss Murphy’s Business College. After raising her family she returned to work, retiring from Nova Scotia Sand and Gravel.

Surviving are her husband, Glen; children, Valerie (Kevin) Huntley, Daryl (Linda); grandchildren, Erica Newman, Christopher Newman, Paxton Huntley, Leeim Huntley; great-grandson, Oscar Huntley; brother, Ray (Eunice) Smiley; sister-in-law, Helen Smiley. She was predeceased by her son, Scott; siblings, Freda MacPhee, Kenneth and Edward Smiley.

Cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will be held in Gays River Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice.

Marie Louise Reid

Reid, Marie Louise – Age 81 of Halifax, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2017, in her residence in St. Vincent’s Nursing Home. Born in Deer Lake, N.L., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Clemency (Gordon) Byrnes.

Louise was a graduate of Memorial University (1953), an active member of the Anglican Church, and a talented organist.

Surviving are daughters, Sherry and Noreen; granddaughters, Cayla and Lindsey; precious great-granddaughter, Amelia; and many extended family members in Newfoundland. She was predeceased by her husband, Rev. Frank Reid; sister, Edna (Clyde) Young.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Anglican Church of the Apostles, Bayers Road. Donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.

Harold Daniel “Danny” Baird

Baird, Harold Daniel “Danny” – The passing of Harold Daniel “Danny” Baird occurred on Monday evening, May 1, 2017, at home with his partner and best friend, Denise Stein, by his side. Danny was born 64 years ago in Truro to the late John and Helen (George) Baird.

Danny was a heavy machinery operator and he worked at various jobs in and around Truro. Between jobs, Danny was a familiar face driving a taxi in the area. He and Denise were avid Harley-Davidson enthusiasts and could often be seen touring around the province. Danny was a kind, shy man with a ready laugh and smile for others.

Danny is survived by his partner, Denise Stein; brother, John (Mary) and their children Ashley (Ben Blackie) and Jared (Veronica Berrie); great-niece, Delilah Rose Blackie; sister, Brenda (George Veal) and their daughter Regan.

Cremation has taken place. As per Danny’s request there will be no visitation or service. If desired, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.

Terrence Austin “Terry” Smith

Smith, Terrence Austin “Terry” – Age 66 of Chaplin, passed away April 30, 2017, with family at his side in Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital, Middle Musquodoboit, following a long struggle with cancer. Born in Chaplin, he was a son of the late Herman and Audrey (Horne) Smith.

Terry was retired from Wilson Equipment Ltd. after over 30 years as a heavy equipment mechanic. He enjoyed being outdoors, four-wheeling, listening to George Jones, spending time at the camp, and spending time with family. Never one to have too many idle moments, he enjoyed tinkering in the garage. He always was there to lend a helping hand expecting nothing in return.

He will always be loved and missed by daughters, Tara (Doug) Champion, Tanya (Bartley MacAloney), both of Truro; Tracey (Steven Jollimore), Liverpool; step grandchildren, Brett and Nicole Champion; sister, Venetta, Chaplin; brothers, Leslie (Colleen), Milk River; Brock (June), Chaplin; Todd (Susan), Truro; sister-in-law, Wanda, Chaplin; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Linda; brothers, Kennard and Wade.

Cremation has taken place. The family will meet friends for a reception on Sunday from 5-7 p.m., in Sharon Presbyterian Church Hall, Dean. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Upper Stewiacke. David Goldwater Eisenhauer

Eisenhauer, David Goldwater – Age 46, Hammonds Plains, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2017, in the loving arms of his wife and best friend, Kim.

Born in Halifax, he was the son of Wendy (Steve) Neil and the late Michael Eisenhauer.

He is survived by his wife Kim (nee Cole); children, Rachael, Rebecca, Elijah, Adiela; sisters, Darlene (Troy) Mansfield, Dawn (Chad) Tanner; special nieces and nephew, Kyla, Josie, Payton, Lawson and Ella.

David was a thoughtful, adoring and caring husband, and an incredible father who doted on his children. He loved joking and playing pranks. David’s passion was to see people come to know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour.

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9.

Visitation will be held Monday, 6–9 p.m., and funeral service Tuesday, at 1 p.m., both in New Covenant Ministries Church, 110 Thorne Avenue, Burnside, with Pastors Gary and Nancy Hooper officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Upper Musquodoboit, at a later date.

Alan Sibley Campbell

Al with his all-time favourite Bobby Orr

Campbell, Alan Sibley – Middle Stewiacke. Born in 1949, he passed away April 21st, 2017 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Alan grew up on the family farm in Middle Stewiacke, a son of the late Ralph and Winifred Campbell, and a product of the post-war baby boom. Kids then learned to work hard and play hard, and it was there that Alan’s lifelong love of sports was born and flourished. He played sports most of his life – hockey on the pond in winter and softball at the ballfield in summer, fished and trapped and worked on the farm. He attended South Colchester Academy and graduated in 1967. His talent and ability led to positions on many local teams including the Brookfield Elks and the Truro Bearcats, as well as membership in the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame as part of the Canadian Mens Softball Champions in 1980.

Alan’s talent and ability also led to his field of study and a Bachelor of Physical Education from University of New Brunswick in 1973. He played for the UNB Varsity Red Devils Hockey team for three seasons, Junior Varsity 1969-70 and Varsity 1970-1972.

After graduation he accepted a position as Director of Recreation for the Town of Summerside, P.E.I. and resided there for three years. He was the Captain of the Summerside Combines Intermediate Mens Hockey Team and player/Coach of the Mens Softball Team. Alan went on to complete his Masters Degree in Recreational Planning at the University of Waterloo in 1979.

He returned to the family farm, Bellton Farms, in Middle Stewiacke, which he purchased after his father passed away. He developed a successful Registered Holstein breeding program with extensive ET work and his breeding stock was sold all over North America. Alan’s favourite was Hanover-Hill R A Star Lee EX 23 stars, with some 70 daughters to their credit.  Right up until the day he died, he asked if there were any new results from the current classification round – he was hoping a couple of daughters would “move up” and Star Lee would get her 25 stars!

The culmination of years of hard work and careful animal husbandry was the Master Breeder Award in 2009, awarded by Holstein Canada to only 20 herds across Canada every year. It is their highest honour. Alan retired from dairy farming in 2009. He began playing golf in 2010 and played his last game on Jekyll Island, Georgia on February 27th, 2017. He loved golf with all the passion of all his other sports (and some frustration, too). He enjoyed many games on many courses in the Maritime Provinces, Quebec, Ontario and many states on the Eastern Seaboard but none as much as those on Jekyll Island, his home away from home for the last five years.

Alan will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him! He was a unique individual with a great sense of humour and a serious appreciation of all sport. He passed away watching “the hockey game”.

Alan was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 1994 and managed to “work and play through it” for 23 years. He and his partner, Jane McDonald, wish to say a sincere “Thank You” to Dr. Sarbjit Singh and Dr. David King for their years of care. Also thanks to the nurses and staff on D-Wing at Colchester East Hants Health Centre – Alan appreciated your care and enjoyed your company!

Margaret “Irene” McNea

McNea, Margaret “Irene” – Age 69, Stewiacke, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2017, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Hardwood Lands, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Helen (Gourley) McMullen.

Irene loved to play cards and visit with friends. She was a member of Willow Bend Seniors Club in Stewiacke. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt and will be sadly missed by husband, Carl; sons, Ernie (Terry), Stewiacke, Scot (Amanda), Brookfield; stepchildren, Lisa (Corinne), St. Thomas, Ont.; Troy (Denise), Port Stanley, Ont.; grandchildren, Mackenzie, William, Evan; step grandchildren, Serena, Jade, Jack; brothers, Doug (Carlie), Chester (Donna), Ernie (Janice); sisters, Frances, Elsie; sisters-in-law, Mary, Connie; uncle, Earl “Pat” McMullen; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Laurie, John, Elroy; sisters, Marion, Audrey; brothers-in-law, Doug Fulton, Ferris Isenor.

Goldie Eileen (Eaton) Dickie

Dickie (Eaton), Goldie Eileen – Age 94, of Middle Musquodoboit, died April 12, 2017, in Northwood Centre, Halifax. She was a daughter of the late Fenwick Eaton and Margaret (Eaton) Cooper.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Florence (Dick) Irwin, Bedford; Leslie (Sharron) Dickie, Cole Harbour; Sandra (Ed) MacKay, Lantz; Rod (Pam) Dickie, Enfield. She was affectionately known as “Gram” by her grandchildren, Tony (Heather), Angela (Donald), Rick (Erin), Keri (Andrew), Ryan (Becca), Michael (Wendy), Evan (Ashley). “GeeGee” will be missed by her great-grandchildren, Matthew, Megan, Dylan, Jacob, Lily, Sylvie, and Madeleine. She also leaves her nephews, Wayne (Marie) Eaton, Gary Pooley; and nieces, Sheila Eaton, Pam Pooley, Betty Gibson, Trudy (Laurie) Cleveland; and many cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Lester; sister, Jean Pooley; brothers, Bev and Earle Eaton; nephew, Don Pooley.

She was an active member and fundraiser for Brookvale Ladies Aid, Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, as well as other organizations. She found great delight and satisfaction in helping and looking after others. Her community and the people in it were very important to her. She enjoyed handiwork, reading, nature, especially feeding birds, and it seemed that every stray cat knew where to find a good home and food. Many will remember her cookie jars were always full. Mom was also known for her “big hugs”, and no one left her home without one.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Monday, at 2 p.m., in Middleton United Church, Middle Musquodoboit, Rev. Dr. Linda Yates officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Higginsville Cemetery. Shaymus Alexander Doucette “Shay” Cadham-Higgins

Cadham-Higgins, Shaymus Alexander Doucette “Shay” – Age 22, of East Chezzetcook. It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Shaymus Alexander Doucette Cadham-Higgins, known to many as “Shay”. Shaymus left this world on Monday, April 10, 2017, leaving behind a loving family and many friends – all deeply missing his love, laughter, and smile. Shaymus struggled with mental health issues and decided to take his own life to find the solace and peace he needed.

Shaymus attended Gaetz Brook Junior High, Eastern Shore District High School, and recently secured a diploma in the gas technician field from the Nova Scotia Community College. Shaymus was the life of the party, enjoying his time with family, friends, and his faithful companion, Taz. He enjoyed fishing, ATVing, snowboarding and being a best friend to everyone he met.

Shaymus is survived by his loving mum and dad, Bev Cadham and Lori Higgins (Sheila); his half-sister, Melissa Thorpes (Paul); grandparents, Terri Cadham, Lillian Higgins, and Lorimer Higgins; aunts and uncles, Polly Bowie (Mike), Joe Cadham (Diana), Portia Peckham (Wayne), Betsy DeLucca (Carlos), Barb Esler (John), Tom Cadham (Lana), Toby Cadham (Robin), Gary Higgins (Darlene), Paul Higgins (Beverly), Jeffrey Higgins (Debbie); many loving cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Tom Cadham.

Eric Wayne “Rick” Jackson

Jackson, Eric Wayne “Rick” – Age 72, Upper Stewiacke, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, on April 10, 2017.

Rick loved to fish and hunt but his passion was gardening. He will always be remembered for his Scarlett Runner Bean House, and the baked beans he made with them. He worked in construction for many years, but his best working years were when he drove the school bus after moving to the farm in Upper Stewiacke.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Colleene (Feener); sons, Eric Jr., Moncton; Edward (Veronica), Truro; William (Emily), Middle Musquodoboit; his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Tara, Dartmouth; Tasha, Vancouver; Erica, Truro; Sam, Brookfield; sister, Lynn MacEachern, Milford; brothers, William, Milford; Laurie, Powassin, Ont.; Clyde, Waverley; Peter, Enfield; special sister-in-law, Sandra Jackson; numerous nieces and nephews; grand and great-grand nieces and nephews; and all the young people in his life as the result of his involvement with the 4-H program and the students he bussed to and from school. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Catherine (Foster) Jackson; brothers, James and Paul; nephews, Michael and Timmy; childhood “best buddy,” Roger Feener; and his “special little girl” Laverne (Feener) Copage.

Visitation will be Wednesday, from 7-8:30 p.m., and a celebration of Rick’s life will be held on Thursday, at 2 p.m., both in Upper Stewiacke United Church, Marty Clark-Ettinger officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery, Upper Stewiacke. MacKenzie (Digdon), Mabel Cora – Age 95, of East Stewiacke, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2017, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, with her family by her side. Born in Half Island Cove, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Edmund and Dorothy Isalona (Hendsbee) Digdon (Half Island Cove).

Mabel taught school for many years, retiring from East Stewiacke Elementary School in 1986. She was a member of Stewiacke United Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughters, Gloria Callaghan, East Stewiacke; Ruth Campbell, Brookfield; Doreen (John) Bartlett, Enfield; sister, Dorothy James, Halifax; grandchildren, James, Scott, Darcy, Lori, Darren, Marsha; 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Laurie Alexander MacKenzie; son-in-law, Fred Callaghan; brothers, Melvin, Everette, Harold, Chester; sisters, Lola, Minnie, Hazel and Helen.

A graveside service will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Stewiacke United Baptist Church, The Kidney Foundation of Canada, or Colchester East Hants Health Foundation – Palliative Care.

Harriet Marna Rose (Lane, Gerrie, Sipols) Cox

Cox, Harriet Marna Rose (Lane, Gerrie, Sipols) – Age 93, of Dean, and formerly of Toronto, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 8, 2017 in Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital, Middle Musquodoboit.

After fighting her way back from a heart attack, she had a major stroke that started a two-year battle slowly losing her fight. She went from doing everything for herself to relying on other people for the most basic things. Life threw her one curve ball after another.

Never one to quit, at the age of 89, she was laying 16-inch patio stones to make a walkway behind her house. She had a little stool to sit on and pull the weeds around the walk. Anyone who knew her would say she liked to party. Once the music started she was on the dance floor all night, stopping only long enough to rehydrate with a shot of Crown Royal and water. She was just go, go, go, the rest of the time. No matter what she did, she gave it her all. She had trophies for bowling, darts, and crib. The first time she went to Florida with Bobby Smith she came back with a trophy for shuffleboard, a game she had never played before!

Surviving are sons, Marvin Gerrie, Wayne Gerrie and Roger Sipols; two grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Musquodoboit Valley Health Foundation – Hospital, or a local women’s shelter would be appreciated.

Dorothy P. (Brown) Jones

Jones (Brown), Dorothy P. – Age 83, of Dartmouth, went to be with the Lord at home, unexpectedly, on March 31, 2017, with her loving husband by her side. Born in Saint John, N.B., and living her younger years in St. Martins, she was the daughter of the late Ainsley and Agnus (Moore) Brown (St. Martins).

She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Walter E.; brothers-in-law, Arthur, Kamloops, B.C.; and Bob (Beth), Sechelt, B.C.; several cousins; many friends, her much-loved goddaughter, Lara; and “the daughter of her heart, but not of her body”, MaryAnne (Beaver) Bailey. She was predeceased by sisters-in-law, Evelyn and Tina.

Dorothy graduated from St. Stephen High School, University of New Brunswick and Dalhousie University. She met the man of her dreams in St. Martins, whom she married in 1953. Her faith and trust in God increased as her body (knees) failed. Dorothy loved and trusted Christ as her Saviour since her youth and found strength in the 23rd Psalm.

Dorothy and Walter resided in Montreal for six years, then in Ontario and New Brunswick. She taught school to thousands of young children in her 41-year career, who were never far from her thoughts. The couple retired in Dartmouth in 1992.

Dorothy also loved to travel, wintered in Florida, and visited Ireland (several times!), Scotland, England, Germany, and Italy. In her heart Dorothy was Irish and wishes her ashes to be scattered under a certain tree in Ireland. She and Walter raised miniature poodles, which she enjoyed showing, along with Pomeranians. She cultivated gladiolas and dahlias and was an avid member of the NS Dahlia Society for whom she judged in competitions. 

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit. In keeping with Dorothy’s wishes, a celebration of her life will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Lake Echo Fellowship Baptist Church, 17 Peter Court, Mineville, NS (902-829-3030). A reception will follow in the same location. Family flowers only, please. Memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice.

Marianne Winnifred Abolit

Abolit, Marianne Winnifred – Age 54, Carrolls Corner, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2017, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, surrounded by her family and friends. Born in Middle Musquodoboit, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Florence (Corbett) Jodrey.

Many will remember Marianne for her pleasant smile, her love of bingo, cards, and devotion to her grandchildren.

She will always be missed by her husband, Rennie; daughter, Loni (Jason); grandchildren, Hayley, Abbie, soon-to-be-born baby; step-grandson, Riley; siblings, Karen (Howard) Annand, Judy (Don) Lushington, Jimmy (Brenda), Lowell (Barb), Kevin; many nieces and nephews; father and mother-in-law, Shirley and Abby; sister-in-law, Michelle (Tim) Flemming; brother-in-law, Darrell. She was predeceased by son, Bill; brothers, Vincent and Lonnie.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Friday from 7-9 p.m., and funeral service will be Saturday at 2 p.m., both in Gays River United Church, Lori Crocker DM officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Gays River Cemetery. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Society (Atlantic Division) or Canadian Cancer Society.

Bernard Anthony Barter

Barter, Bernard Anthony – Age 52, of Elmsdale, passed away peacefully at home on March 29, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Dick and Katie (Horne) Barter.

Bernard was a lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Enfield Branch 133, where he held several positions. He was a lifetime member of the Enfield Volunteer Fire Department, as well as active in the East Hants communities. His career was spent with IMP Aerospace since the young age of 16.

Bernard leaves behind his wife of 17 years, Norma (Trainor); sons, Nathan, B.J., and Dawson; siblings, Susan (Richard) Widgery, Rick (Lorrie), Bob, Ted (Lisa), as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Steve.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Sunday, 6-9 p.m., and funeral service will be Monday, at 11 a.m., both in St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Enfield, Father Michael Walsh officiating. Interment will be in the parish columbarium. A reception will follow in Enfield Fire Hall. No flowers, please; memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.

Ira George Hartlen

Hartlen, Ira George – Age 79, Enfield. Ira passed away peacefully on Monday, March 27, 2017, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII Site, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Murchyville, and raised in Middle Musquodoboit, he was a son of the late Judson and Effie (Higgins) Hartlin.

Ira was the kindest soul, who never had a negative word to say about anyone. He took pleasure in helping everyone and never wanted anything in return. Over the years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, and in recent years could often be seen walking to get his mail. Many people recognized him from his walks. He was an active member of the Eckankar community, and held the office of provincial coordinator for many years.

Surviving are his children, Stephen (Cathy), Trina, Dawn (Brian); grandchildren, Cody, Clay, Jillian, Michael, Matthew, Jessica, Brittany, Harley; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Roy (Reta), Ivy, Joyce, Lewis, Elaine; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Ralph.

Cremation has taken place. At Ira’s request, there will not be a formal funeral. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday from 1-3 p.m. in Enfield Fire Hall. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.

The family thank the staff of the Halifax Infirmary for the compassionate care provided to their dad at this time.

Sylvia Agnes Ellingwood

Ellingwood, Sylvia Agnes – Age 64, of Shubenacadie, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2017, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Surviving are her husband, Miles; sons, Danny, Sterling (Dawn); daughter, Heather (Randy) Snow; grandchildren, Delano, Jacob, Wyatt, Alexander, Kenny, Jesse, Chelsie, Damon, Hailey, Dillan; great-grandchildren, Cohen, Kalub; sisters, Yvonne Lightle, Mary (Russ) Higgins, Eileen (Jim) Phalen, Janet (Dale) Whitenect; brothers, Alfred, David, Roger, Derek (Patty); many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Whitney and Rita (Berg) Douthwright; brothers, Robert and Bernard.

Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Colchester East Hants Health Centre Foundation – Palliative Care Unit would be appreciated.

Our family would like to thank the Palliative Care workers at the hospital for their outstanding compassion and care.
